I've been working on my velour Borsalino. Changed the straight crease to a teardrop and removed the cord hat band. I replaced the cords with a black grosgrain ribbon and bow. I have a nasty tendency to place the bow too far to the rear...I still have to fix that. It won't be the first ribbon...
I just tried changing the crease to a diamond. It looks a lot less dowdy now but I still don't much like the rope hatband...a little too alpine for my taste. Now if it shouted "grumpy old guy" it might be more suitable for me!
The band will go into my box of hat odds and ends (eventually)...
I found my first Borsalino in a thrift shop a couple of days ago. I'm guessing from the label under the sweatband that the model is Amiata. It was made for Simpson's, a now defunct Canadian department store. It's wonderfully soft and luxurious. What is this finish? Velour? Angora?
