I spent many summers as a youth getting fried by the sun. This past year for the first time I went to the Dr. due to a rough patch of skin on my nose, and got a shot of liquid nitrogen in a couple places on my face. I've always been into hats, but will definitely wear them outdoors more often...
Innisart, from another fairly new poster, I would say you will begin to appreciate a higher crown the more time you spend at The Lounge. Looking through pictures on the "What Hat Are You Wearing Today" and the "New Lid" threads, a lower crown will show up and look a bit odd! Mark my words...
I'm pleased to hear the bartenders replies to the topic of starting threads where one already exists. It seems they are encouraging of new posters, like myself, and are not in the business of pedantically keeping threads segregated.
FL seems to be as much a conversational forum as a resource...
I would put in a word for Bernie Utz - I've only been in once, about 5 years ago and don't live in Washington, but it seems like a venerable hatter of old. I visited before becoming enamored of felt dress hats, and I purchased a nice ivy cap that I still wear here and there.
Outstanding lids, Gents! Michaelshane, hauls in the deal of the decade; Goose, sporting the black Fed IV in style; JtL - sharp as a tack; and so on...
Dinerman, is there a story behind the old Stetson?
Removal could portend an ill omen - I recommend leaving the offending matter alone. Remember the old proverb about the foo bird: If the foo sh*ts, wear it.
There's no tags inside the sweat. There is a blurry purple stamp that looks like it may be the John B. Stetson logo (really too blurry to tell) and also stamped in black is the number 405656.
Any other thoughts on dating and identifying this lid?
CRH - Not to feed the addiction or anything, but I definitely see a Lawson in your future...
Z - you pull off the Alpine/Cattleman's bash with aplomb! It suits you extraordinarily well. Nice Open Road...
From the look of the hat I'm guessing your students are getting them in Burma, not in Indiana!
Do you know any other information about the hats? Nice design on the one in the picture.
Akubra Lawson
I've had this hat a couple months and I've promised CRH in another thread I would post pics. I ordered this directly from Australia and did the three month wait. I believe the color is Loden. Without further ado, here is a Heritage Collection Akubra Lawson.
By the way, it's...
Submitted for your approval...
Okay, nowhere on this hat does it say Open Road, so you'll have to decide whether or not I am eligible for membership in the Guild. This is a Royal Stetson, and I'd appreciate any input on dating this hat. There seems to be a couple anomalies - it looks like it...
CRH - a kind offer and kind remarks! I have no doubt about the knowledge base here with regard to hats. I think I'm getting old enough I don't lie to myself anymore. The look of the stovepipe straight sides of a Campdraft/OR with a teardrop/tugboat crease don't fit me. For now you'll have to...
Then perhaps a summary of your knowledge on the topic...as I said, I like the thin ribbon of the OR, but not in a teardrop bash on my noggin. It appears to be much too straight up and down without any taper.
Are there thin ribbon hats with a bit more taper than the Open Road or other hats I...
I think the answer to this question really depends on your definition of "comeback." We all know that fedoras, and anything other than ball caps are, in general, fairly uncommon. You've got a high-profile Timberlake in stingy brims, Depp in beat up fedoras, and Pitt in ivy caps, which could...
