Did you notice that the dresses are photoshopped over her body? So that's not exactly how the dress would look on someone.

The Hardest Noir You've Ever Witnessed

Kiss of Death - Just for the scene where Richard Widmark ties Victor Mature's mother to her wheel chair with an electrical cord and pushes her down the steps. Brute Force - A gritty prison break movie with Burt Lancaster. This movie got a lot of flak in the 40s when it was released for...

    Food Network

Anthony Bordain wrote a funny (and extremely snarky) blog about his thoughts on the Food Network: http://blog.ruhlman.com/2007/02/guest_blogging_.html I agree whole-heartedly!

"1940's Hairstyles" The book will break the bank

I sold my first edition for the same reasons. I didn't find the book to be very helpful. I sold mine about a year and a half ago for a $90 BIN to a gal in Germany. But, seeing the prices they are selling for now, I probably could have gotten a higher BIN. At the time, I was amazed someone...

WWII Photos (and Stories) of Our Loved Ones

Thank you for the kind invite, Paddy. This is my husbands grandfather, age 18. He was the ball turret gunner in a B-17. He often said he was one of the few guys small enough to fit in the ball turret, that's why they made him the gunner. Considering the mortality rates that ball turret...

WWII Photos (and Stories) of Our Loved Ones

I have a picture of my husband's grandfather and his B-17 crew (he was the ball turret gunner) standing in front of their B-17 that I've been dying to post.

What Is The Strangest Thing You've Ever Seen?

I experienced a driving snow storm that had thunder and bad lightening at the same time. It was scary! The sky turned that weird shade that it does during hurricanes and the air was really electrostatically charged. A big bolt of lightening hit the ground near our truck while hubby and I were...

    Siriusly Monotonous

I listen to Little Steven's Underground Garage channel mostly. It's a great channel if you like rock and roll. I really like the variety/mix on the channel. Alongside modern garge bands like The 45s, The Detroit Cobras, The Kaiser Chiefs, Moony Suzuki - they'll play songs from The Kinks...

    art deco horror

1934's The Black Cat starring Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi. And because I'm feeling awfully lazy tonight, I found some quotes to explain why I love this movie so much. Quote from IMDB: "The real star of this film, though, is the house. What an incredible set! The house, designed and...

    Duds made from vintage linens?

I love vintage table clothes! I miss being able to find them in thrift stores for cheap. Thanks for posting the link to your tablecloth website. I got a surprise when I clicked on the resources button from your main page. I own a tablecloth almost identical to the 1940s red oriental one...

Why do I hate the 1970s so much?

As much as I disliked the 70s, I must give it credit in a few areas: 1. People still got dressed up to go out (even though I may not have liked the fashions). 2. A lot of 70s womens fashions were re-interpretations of clothing from the 1930s (even if they were made of polyester...

    Vintage Hat question---Flowers

Just be careful with your hands, its easy to burn them when you're holding something over a kettle. My iron also has a really good steamer on it. You could try holding the iron above, but not touching, the hat and shoot steam at it that way.

Have You Ever Met A Movie/TV Star or Celebrity?

I had a chance to see the Dahli Lama speak, but didn't go. I still regret it to this day. This may sound silly, but when I meet Mr. Rogers it was the same way. Such a quiet, unassuming man but you could feel the goodness coming from him.

    Vintage Hat question---Flowers

I just steamed a 50s straw cartwheel hat and a wool 40s fedora because they had gotten a little wrinkled up. I was really pleased with the results of both. It really freshened up the fabric and the ribbons on the hats. One thing to be aware of when you steam a hat is to not steam it too much...

    Documentaries

One of my favorites is Theramin: An Electronic Odessy. It's about the inventor of the theramin, Leon Theramin. His life is like something out of a science fiction novel. He started to develop and play the theramin in the 20s, along with with Clara Rockmore (a theramin virtuoso herself and...
