Yes, but this ain't then. No parasites now to speak of.
I trust that when the technology changes and becomes safer, I will no longer be afraid of whatever it is that now I am taking sensible precautions against.
Yes, I think there is something fishy going on, but I don't think they would pull a movie or refuse to back it just because of something as vague as "it's inappropriate." I think either the threat of corporate lawsuits or something else.
The fear of eugenics, perhaps.
Hansen is a really nice guy. I met him when he came to Berkeley to do a talk -- sponsored by the ROTC and not the classics dept, since he is persona non grata at the latter because they are all radical leftists and he is not. He told me about the creeps at grad school with him at Stanford. Some...
I hope summer is ending ...
-- There are some good signs. After a horrid and torrid heat wave in Berkeley, the last few days have been pleasant enough to wear a suit-jacket. Yes, I was making the ladies swoon on the hot days by wearing trousers, a 40s tie, and suspenders without the...
Well, I for one do think this one is rather important. (But if others think it is off-topic, we can agree to disagree, and this is that last I will say on germs for now anyway, so here goes.)
It is now considered by smarter doctors healthier to raise children in a constant environment of...
Oh, I assure you, Idiocracy is much more incisive, insightful, and (please insert another word beginning with the same two syllables that carries the gist of this idea) than King of the Hill.
i'm glad too. I thought I was an unusually dirty person. I'm glad it's only my mind that is unusually dirty, and that other people run into fleas in late summer too.
Sorry Hungary Tom, I didn't see that you posted this, although I saw the article a little while ago. Yes, this is a marvelous find! People are excited, although I don't know much about it.
It's funny -- a guy at a party said to me, "So, you're getting your PhD in ancient history? What else...

Greece Welcomes Return of Antiquities
Compiled by JULIE BLOOM
On Wednesday Greece celebrated the return of two rare antiquities,
Reuters reported. The items, a bronze vase from the fourth-century
B.C. and the upper part of a marble tombstone, have been put...
I agree that Mr/Mrs/Ms is more elegant and I wish it would come back. Plus, there are many more Jims for each Mr Elderwood (or whatever). Calling people by their last name reduces confusion.
Corporal punishment, especially spanking, has an entirely different set of associations now. I could...
My parents are very old and gave us slightly but not very unusual names. Timothy, Charles, Matthias, Marianne, and Edmund. There was no self-conscious deliberate intent in the naming -- they were not saying to themselves "let us give slightly but not overly unusual names."
I knew no Tims...
I keep a dapper look at all times, usually vintage but sometimes mixed.
What works for me is:
1.) First and foremost, footwork and keeping an eye out all the time, constantly being on the alert, and cultivating a good imagination for what will go with what.
2.) Goodwill and garage...
There is non-homogenized organic milk available in glass bottles here in Berkeley, but not delivered.
When I was a kid, we got milk delivered in glass bottles, and also huge bottles of water that we'd turn upside-down and fit on top of a water dispenser.
