The general decline in standards today

I absolutely agree with this. Perhaps if there were more charitable people around we wouldn't need to constantly gripe about a decline in standards.

The general decline in standards today

Sorry to read about the theft of your debit card. I never understood the logic of excluding a form of payment.

What's something modern you won't miss when it becomes obsolete?

I hate Bourdain's shtick and cannot change the channel fast enough when he comes on. I'm waiting for the day celebrity cooks, particularly tattooed ones, are off the air. I'm sick to death of suffering awful American cooks with more tattoos than culinary ability.

How do I get back to the mobile version

I moved this to the OB for a wider audience..

It is tough going vintage everyday.

You've hit the nail on the head. Most people have computer access and/or a cell phone. It shouldn't take much time at all to research a source to supply or refurbish the item in question. When all else fails, learn to do it yourself!

    Vanson "Ike" in "Octagon" Leather...

Very nice! I like the style, hide finish, grain, color, etc. It's all good and I expect will only get better with age.

BOARDWALK EMPIRE (HBO) - Everything you wanted to bootleg about the Show!

Yes, Eddie's downfall was his inability to reconcile his past. Had he stayed a butler his unsavory past may never have surfaced. I've grown to seriously dislike that new rat-faced agent. While it will never happen I'd love to see him "baptised" by Van Alden..

What seperates "golden era" from "midcentury"?

The term "Heritage" makes me cringe. This term used with photos of too skinny guys wearing 2 day beards and overpriced head-to-to denim "workwear" inspired outfit gives me the runs. If any of the poster boys do work that required anything more than a laptop and a latte I'll gladly eat my hat...

    Am I the only one?

You're not the only one. Enough of this warm weather bring on old man winter!

The poor old fellow wanted more responsibility but couldn't handle the additional risk.. It's a tough racket.

When did city slickers start wearing jeans?

Agreed. I dig the wife beater, jeans, and two-tone shoe look!

When did city slickers start wearing jeans?

Agreed, the original question is a bit mis-leading/cluttered, whatever.. Btw, great pics from Streetcar!

Something I miss with the decline of the printed word

Based on what I've read so far it appears the basic Kindle is a very good e-reader. Reviews note the e-ink pearl display mimics the traditional reading surface. It doesn't have the bells and whistles of devices looking to compete with the ipad. At 70 bucks it's a very affordable option...

Something I miss with the decline of the printed word

What e-reader screen flickers? I'm in the market for one and would like to know what to avoid. This reminds me of visiting my grandparents when I was a kid. My grandfather kept a supply of classic crime, detective, horror magazines in the bathroom.

New Bonnie and Clyde mini series on the History Channel

I hope the writers ( John Rice and Joe Batteer ) did their homework and read the fantastic 2010 book Go Down Together: The True, Untold Story of Bonnie and Clyde by Jeff Guinn. That book detailed the crushing poverty of the times Barrow & Parker sprang from. Guinn also discusses the horrible...

    The dreaded inside pocket question

This makes sense. Anyone who treats their jacket with hot water and wears to dry is wet moldiing the leather. Stick a wallet in the pocket of a damp jacket and one may see the outline.

Now that's a big vice! Is it yours?

Something I miss with the decline of the printed word

I could probably read Mein Kampf on the train and no one would bat an eyelash. This is due more to ignorance of the subject than to indifference.. That is not to say digital readers shouldn't have a place. I may purchase my wife a Kindle this year for X-mas. She does most of her reading...

Something I miss with the decline of the printed word

Yes this is also what I am referring to. Getting to know people by their stuff. What kind of books are on the shelf. Cookbooks, fiction, biographies, etc. I'm interested in seeing what magazines are laying around, music they listen to, and movies they collect.
