Thank you, Rick, I appreciate that. I enjoy learning and tinkering, trying to be as self-sufficient as I can, but I sure am glad there are true craftsmen like you out there who can take a vision for a hat and bring it to life.
Thank you, Brent! It's not too bad, but the shadows are hiding the...
I tried to take some pictures today of a conversion I just finished up; the lighting was too poor inside for a black hat, and all the snow and ice outside made it tough to get good pictures...
I needed a black hat for the occasional funeral, etc., but I don't wear one often enough that I wanted...
Nice boots! We attend one of the stereotypical "little white country churches" and my normal footwear is a pair of brown White's lace-up packers that I keep clean and polished. They are not the least casual footwear at our church by any stretch of the imagination, but church is not about the...
Please pardon an ignorant question about western boots, as I've worn logger-type lace-ups most of my life...
When a boot is referred to as "hand-stitched", exactly what does that involve? I can't imagine that all the intricate stitching shown on y'all's fine boots is produced by a craftsman...
That is true - the leather and wooden heel stacks rot out on work boots, and the nails rust out, and then you're walking down a grade or on a pitched roof and your heel decides to let go... you can picture what happens next. I have worn logger boots since my early teens, and sometimes the soles...
Thank you. I have had a few Stagecoaches but only recently was given an older beat-up Resistol 4x, so I have no real basis for comparison. I appreciate your reply!
Very, very nice hat! I hope you get many happy years of wear out of it. I wonder if I am the only one who had to head to the internet to see what a "vicuna" is? :D
Very cool; I like old treadle sewing machines. I like fine machinery in general and these are truly a neat piece of work. I realize the only part you're using is the base, but it's still cool. I sure hope that investment works out for you! It certainly will save some grueling hand work.
Thank you sir! I hate it when I confuse “swirling” with “curling”! :D
With your recent announcement about bringing your business to a close, now would be a good time to express my sincere thanks for all I have learned about the hat craft from reading your various posts. There’s a lot of us here...
This old thread might help:
https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/akubra-imperial-quality.69049/
The only grades I’ve seen that apply to current Akubra fedoras is Heritage (a better grade felt with a better sweatband) and Imperial (the standard grade with the sweatband that shrinks - maybe...
Thanks very much! That description is helpful. I had looked for Youtube videos also, without turning up anything. There's lots of information out there to tell you that you need to iron the ribbon, just nothing readily available to tell you how to do it.
Thanks again,
Regan
Well, folks, I'm resurrecting a dead thread because I need a little help and a search has turned up nothing but dead links and missing photos, although some of the text has been informative.
I'm doing a conversion on a beat-up Resistol western hat, and am going to use a 1-1/2" wide ribbon for...
