    Question on "Indy" type pinch

Greetings all! As my research into all things Fedora eventually led me here, it also brought me to the Club Obi Wan forum. Now there are some dedicated folks. I was amazed by their attention to detail. Anyway, my question concerns the "pinch" applied to the Indy fedoras - was that a...

    Hats in the rain

Very good point. My wife has instructed me in the fine art of holding the umbrella in the rain. It must be at the correct angle so that she stays dry... and I get half soaked. ;)

Had my first hot towel shave yesterday

Ayuh, I did. Hung it up on the little hook as well when I took it off! I really liked the atmosphere as well... classic music (not classical), real relaxed vibe...

    Another new Herbert Johnson

Greetings all! Yesterday was a good day. Not only did I go for a hot towel shave, but my wife surprised me with a new Herbert Johnson fedora. It is the same model as my only other hat - a Gloucester - however this one has a lining. It is a size smaller (59 instead of 60), and such the...

Had my first hot towel shave yesterday

Greetings all! I had my first hot towel shave yesterday at an "old time" barbers on Westmoreland Street, here in Dublin. This place was on the news a few years ago because they were apparently one of the few barber shops to still offer this service. Anyway, me lovely wife got me a gift...

Straw pole - how many of you wear lids whilst driving?

I wear my hat in the car while I'm driving. Although my car is small (VW Polo), I have more than enough room.

    Finally got me first fedora

Thanks for the tip! I never thought to check out Clery's! We're actually off to London at the end of the month, but I will give it a whirl before we up and leave.

    trilby?

Ha ha - funny world... My colleagues here use the name trilby rather than fedora. I just had this discussion with someone yesterday.

    Grim Fandango

Cool looking game. My wife was actually looking at that game... Now she'll have an extra reason to get it! :)

    Grim Fandango

My wife was playing an old-ish PC game the other day that she picked up for about €2.00 called "Grim Fandango". The game has some of the coolest Art Deco-inspired sets I've ever seen. The storyline is actually quite interesting and I found myself actually watching her play - it was like...

    Shoe question

I was in the need of a new pair of shoes in a hurry. I stopped by Marks 'n Sparks and I picked up these: http://www.marksandspencer.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=1&Section_Id=6059&Product_Id=1344099 I never seem to have good luck with shoes, as I have rather wide feet. I like...

What I use instead of a PDA...

There are genuine reasons to use a PDA - you and Canadave have pointed out quite a few... The use of a PDA in my line of work aided me to some degree - I've used them before for remote access, keeping track of all sorts of data etc, but it also tied me in more closely to my work - a side effect...

What I use instead of a PDA...

Good point Canadave. There are certain professions that require this type of functionality. I admit that I do have a ton of addresses and number in my mobile. I do have a little leather address book, but I don't carry it much because I don't have that many pockets!

All You Need to Know About Hat Etiquette

When I was in the army, we wouldn't salute w/o headgear unless we were reporting to the CO in his office. The only time we wouldn't salute while wearing headgear was when we were out in the field - except for when you wanted to play with a new LT... You would salute him - he would be a...

What I use instead of a PDA...

Ah, I found the link to the company: http://www.kynd.com/~fnj/leaccessories.html I have this one: http://www.kynd.com/~fnj/images/accessories/nbp2_sm.jpg It isn't a very good picture. They have one that is slightly larger, but this one suits me fine. It is no-frills. Thick (for a...

What I use instead of a PDA...

True, nor can you write down a number or address, tear the page off and give it to someone. I'm sure they'll invent wee printers (the waiters over here already have 'em when you pay for a meal via credit card) that techophiles will carry around as well... Ugh.

What I use instead of a PDA...

Interesting... Although I work in IT, I really hate how the world has become a smaller, less exotic place due to the Internet. Granted, you woudn't have cool forums like The Fedora Lounge, but... After reading numerous ebooks on my last PDA, I remarked how I missed the weight of a real...
