Dating Vintage Stetsons by size tag

Well, that rules out the '20s boater claim.

Dating Vintage Stetsons by size tag

Thanks, Dinerman. So far we're on the same page except for the stars? I don't see stars. Stetson Medalist is embossed if that ads any clues. I ran across a Stetson Medalist boater claimed to be from the '20s. No pics of the sweat though.

Dating Vintage Stetsons by size tag

Stetson Medalist Cuenca I'm thinking '40s on this Stetson Panama. There appears to be the gold foil on the card stock. Maybe it just landed on a later hat? What do you all think?

    Panama Hat Thread

The one I posted previously in this thread is from the 40's or early 50's. I'm unsure if the tag has foil laminated on it or not.

    I love the Fed IV!!

That's a whole half inch of tolerance. I suspect that Akubra may be using live fish and bunny ears to measure things. :p

Which ribbon treatment do you like better on this hat?

Thankfully good women are not easily embarrassed.

Which ribbon treatment do you like better on this hat?

Argyle socks I'd leave well enough alone in this situation, however. I don't think a ribbon has to match the binding. You could just match the ribbon to your socks, or your socks to the binding or whatever. Hey, look what happens around here when somebody mentions Whippet or Gay Blade...

Excellent point, Oirrel. Those go for gold on eBay. If I ever land one I'll quit shaking my fist at God. Promise.

    Hat blocks/shapers/home made?...

This thread is really getting my wheels turning. I think one of the hamsters inside my head just sprain a paw. Let's face it fellas. This is not rocket science here, well, not unless you have a CAD Mill setup with a laser scanner to take a 3D inside and out image of your favorite new Whippet...

The price was certainly right! The crease doesn't look half bad either. Welcome!

    Hat blocks/shapers/home made?...

I'm certainly curious. I have access to a wood shop and could make what I want if I only new the dimensions. If I had access to the blocks I wanted to copy I could make templates - but then I wouldn't need to make the blocks would I. :eusa_doh: Yes this could all be guesstimated...

    Hat blocks/shapers/home made?...

I was thinking of carving on the lathe like you would carve a bowl but you're right. This would give you a round shape which would not be best as compared to an ovoid shape.
