Show us your Thrift and/or yard sale finds

It was the beige era. I now avoid beige like the plague! Actually this phone is an attractive light grey with a definite green cast. I had bought a beat up beige 500 a few years ago so my son could experience using a dial phone. He was amused but ultimately not impressed! 666 is also a...

    What Are You Reading

Just started Karen Maitland's Company of Liars. Just didn't quite finish Michael Crichton's Micro. Couldn't be bothered finishing...that fellow is one inconsistent writer.

I'm trying hard NOT to start a phone collection but I just couldn't resist the lovely light grey Northern Electric 500 that I found at a thrift store today. Curse those thrift stores!

    Correct Telephone Habits

For a while I was using Alexander Bell's preferred "Ahoy-hoy" instead of Edison's "hello". It confused people no end.

    Renovating my AE34 telephone

The instructions were in a thread started by LizzieMaine about skills for living in the era. Here's a link to the entry: http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?68891-Skills-For-quot-Living-The-Era-quot/page3 Both of my NE 302s work fine. One's from 1941 with original wiring and the...

    Your First Fedora

I picked up my first fedora about 11 years ago. I attended an auction that was being held for a theatrical costumers. There were two tables of men's fedoras but this one was the only one that fit my fat head. Too bad I didn't have my hat stretcher at the time...there were some really gorgeous...

    Renovating my AE34 telephone

Interesting video about the PAX. Considering the dial card on mine, I suspect it was used in some kind of internal phone system (the number is simply 209). This is all quite new to me...I'm not a terribly techie guy! (I'm delighted today because I just found 2 Stetson milans, a Biltmore...

    Birding - A Civilized Pastime

Obsessive birders are just like any obsessive type...a tad on the tedious side with a strong tilt toward arrogance. I try to avoid them. Wild turkeys were pretty well eliminated up here until someone decided to reintroduce them. Now, they're pretty common. They sure do breed!

    Renovating my AE34 telephone

I had seven phones hooked up and the receiver volume definitely suffered. Now I've cut back to 5 (sounds like an addiction) and the volume is fine. I hooked my AE34 up last night to try it out. Quite the volume from the receiver I must say! However, it also cut off all the other phones in...

    Renovating my AE34 telephone

That was fast, RT! Nice looking gasket, as well. The cords look great too. Not sure I can help with the wiring. My handset is a Type 41 and seems to be wired differently than your Type 38. I think I may have to give that company some of my business as well! That phone is going to look...

    Pics of classic gas stations

I was just lamenting the loss of these classic gas stations two days ago when I noticed that another local station was being torn down for yet another condo. It won't be long before these things will only exist in photographs. They certainly don't seem to attract any attention from any...

    Renovating my AE34 telephone

Love the bell...and that AE34 has a terrific sound. Right now I'm using a 302 on my home line. I tried hooking up the AE34 and the 202 as well but I found the volume on the line really fell off. So, just the one for now.

    Birding - A Civilized Pastime

My wife and I birded quite a bit about 8 or 9 years ago. It started tapering off when we had pretty well spotted all the species one could spot in our area, plus a number of strays. It a great hobby. We're contemplating getting back into it now that we've retired. Still have all the...

    Renovating my AE34 telephone

By the way, I've also had my 302s and the 202 apart to check out dates. The 302s are dated 1941 and 1946 while the 202 is from 1939. i'm trying hard not to drift into becoming a phone collector!

    Renovating my AE34 telephone

And here's how to get that number card cover off: http://www.classicrotaryphones.com/forum/index.php?topic=5833.0 You're probably right with the gasket...seems a bit pricey just for a small dial gasket so it probably is the one for the base. Now that I've done some homework and am more...

    Renovating my AE34 telephone

Did you give him a call? I got the impression that gasket was for the dial, not the base. I could well be wrong, though!
