Navy Blue Early 50's 100% Beaver Stingy

Here's a nice find, which I updated today with a very nice vintage ribbon & bow, in "horizon" blue (steely). Asking Price: $225.00 Era: Early 1950's based on oilskin sweatband liner. Size: Marked 7 1/8, measures between 7-7 1/8 (56+ cm) with three different measuring compasses. Brim: 1 1/2"...

New ribbon & bow on this navy blue early 1950's Beaver Brand (Langenberg) 100% beaver fur stingy brim. I didn't take before photos, but mocked them up with the old ribbon & bow. I like it a lot better now. I will be selling it though, to help pay off my recent purchase... Before: This...

You can also go up a size on a flange and iron out the difference if you have to. I believe Ermatinger mentions this (in the context of buying as little materials as necessary) as a way to save $ when getting started blocking hats.

What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

Thx for the kind words TJ! It's your hat, wear it how you want!

What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

Justin, "You wear it well, a little old fashioned, but that's all right." Seriously, you are looking good - and kinda tough - in that hat.

What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

I was having a conversation about the original "Shantung" hats just a day or so ago in the ask a Q thread. Great to see one!

TopHatters (San Leandro) - In Memoriam of Ted & Marie Lee

There are a lot of different shapes, and each shape is repeated for each size/oval. This batch has a lot of Lundstrom blocks & flanges. That's cool because it's an old SF company and one of my first hats was a Lundstrom. I imagine Ted & Marie bought these when Lundstrom closed down.

TopHatters (San Leandro) - In Memoriam of Ted & Marie Lee

Yes, they had a large stock of finished hats, but Peter is looking to sell them all as a lot. If anyone is interested, check out the TopHatters.Net site or PM me for his contact info. The hat you admired is actually my own sky blue Champ Featherweight. ;-) It was in the pic because I had...

TopHatters (San Leandro) - In Memoriam of Ted & Marie Lee

I actually got all of this and more. I bought no finished hats (I couldn't afford them), but I did get anything and everything to do with _making_ hats (men's & women's). This included hand tools, stretchers, spinners, blocks, flanges, flange stands, flanging cloth, hat bodies, sweats, liners...

Here are a few photos of the San Leandro shop, as it was when I bought the hat making supplies:

Doubt it. It will probably fade, at least.

    The Conversion Corral

Olė, I have sad irons (as you know) and I use an electric iron primarily for ribbon work, but for ironing flat, crown ironing, and frankly a lot of foot ironing, it's the (1940's, not early 20th century) Eureka electric cordless sad iron that I like the best. It's cordless, electric...

To be fair, it started that way. Even rolled up, it was awe inspiring. The real artist here probably was paid a nickel :-(

    The Conversion Corral

Thanks for all the comments guys! I'm blushing ;-) It was a vintage body - I've saved a couple over the years, but the others are old hats. This was still rolled up, and pretty small, but it worked at 7 1/8. It was sold by Tesoro originally - see the parabuntal (I think it's misspelled as...
