    Not Retro, Just Raining!

Rain - Rain - GO AWAY!!! It's been pouring here in CT for days. :( Both the front and back yard are flooded. I know some parts of New England have it worse, with flooding and evacuations - I hope no one here at the Lounge has been effected to badly!

    In The Kitchen!

Your kitchen looks great! Is the whole house done in vintage style? I would love for my kitchen to look like that, so comfortable and homey, not sterile looking like so many modern kitchens that look more like a science lab than a kitchen! :(

    Everyday 40s Hair

Using a setting lotion may help keep the curl in, if your doing a cold set. I use "Lottabody", I think many of the gals here do. It is very inexpensive and comes in a huge bottle which you will probably never use up!:) On the days I don't set my hair, I sleep with a hairnet around my...

New Ladies and Gents Step Forward

Hi Everyone! I hope I haven't been rude by posting without properly introducing myself first! I'm a stay at home mom to 4 kids, ranging in ages from 4 to 12 ( with 9 year old twins thrown in for good measure:) ). My parent's were young adults during the '40's. My dad was a WWII vet...

    Good Vintage Reads...

I love Poirot too! I watch the re-runs of the A&E series on the Biography channel on Tuesdays! I forgot about the Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew mysteries, I really used to love those. I have to raid the kids bookshelves now......:)

    Good Vintage Reads...

Can anyone recommend some good vintage reading?:) I am partial to mysteries/suspense and have read the usual Agatha Christie. I have also read Patricia Wentworth's "Miss Silver" ( very much like Miss Marple) and M.M. Kaye's books. I have also read most of Erle Stanley Gardner as well...

    "Anti-Aging" Treatments?

I consider myself pretty lucky because I guess I have good genes. Neither my mom nor any of her sisters really had wrinkles or lined skin until they were well into their '70's. They always used Pond's cold cream at night and then Oil of Olay when it first came out and was popular. My mom is now...

    Was Your Hometown Retro?

I grew up in a city here in CT. But the town where my husband and I are raising our kids is very "Norman Rockwell" like. The whole town is involved in the Memorial Day parade, either you watch or you march! All the kids get a big kick out of it. We have a beautiful Main Street, which still...

    Bring back the clotheslines!

This thread has inspired me! I remember as a kid running under the sheets that were hanging on the line, and pretending I was in a long tunnel! It's these simple things imaginative things that kids don't do anymore. I would love for my own kids to do that, so this weekend I'm sending my...

    Cute Vintage-y Shoes

Those are really cute!:) I think I'm going to buy them in black, I would have liked to see them in a dark brown as well. They look really comfortable. I am so not used to wearing any type of "high heeled" shoe anymore, that when I do, my feet really ache. Flats aren't always...

    Shorter-length hairstyles?

I have very short hair too. I like the idea of the finger waves framing the face. My hair is stick straight so I just bought some wave clamps ( I think that's what they are called), hopefully they will make the wave stay in longer. I remember my aunt using them to set her hair in waves...

Esther William's Swimwear If any one is looking for a new swimsuit this season, the Esther William's line is worth a look! www.esther-williams.com/swimwear.htm (I hope this is the right link) I just got mine today, the white with cherries. Now I'm no "Skinny Minnie", having 4 kids does...

    Laura

Another good Tierney/Price film.... Laura is also one of my favorites. Another is Leave Her to Heaven, with Gene Tierney/Cornell Wilde/Vincent Price and Jeanne Crain. Tierney plays a vindictive/calculating/jealous wife who kills anyone who comes between her and her husband (Wilde), real or...

"1940's Hairstyles" The book will break the bank

I wondered what happened to her '50's book.... I had it pre-ordered on Amazon, for like 2 years. I really wanted it because I like the shorter styles (especially the Italian boy style) since I have been wearing my hair short.
