A question I have is: Is Indy's hat "period appropriate"? What I mean is, where fedoras that large overall, and with that sort of particular brim styling, worn often in the middle 1930s?
My head measures somewhere just between 21 3/4'' and 22'' on the dot. I'm looking at a hat that has been measured at 22 1/4''...Will it fit too loosely?
I find the era between the end of the Civil War, and the start of World War I, a fascinating period. A time which spanned from the cowboy era, the railroads, the further growth of the United States, the emergence of the U.S. as a major player on the World Stage, right up to the outbreak of the...
Can someone give me what they believe are the dimensions/brands/brim sizes of the following hats:
Great-grandpa, 1945:
Great-uncle (the guy on the left in the first pic), 1945:
Great-grandpa, 1920s? 1930s?:
What kind of hat would my father's hat be described as? Dimensions, and where could I get one like it? This picture was taken in 1995 and that hat is sadly long gone.
Bumping this oldie. I've discovered quite a collection over time of Jack wearing hats not only throughout his Presidency, but in his earlier career:
1946:
January 21st, 1960: On his way to formally announce his bid for the Presidency:
December 2nd 1960 (on the way to visit Jackie in the...
These are five rogues met in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, in a flashback sequence set in Utah in 1912. While their exact outfits are probably original, I can't help but think, on some weird subconcious level, that their general attire and attitude (they seem very, well, rough-hewn...
Thanks for all the replies. Thing is, I've looked at their prices, Bencraft that is, they're quite steep. I want a very Indiana Jones-esque fedora, but I guess I'll have to shop vintage.
Given my face shape/size, would I be better off with a larger brimmed fedora? Stingy brimmed?
Also, I'm rusty at this - at how many inches does a Fedora's brim go from being stingy brimmed to a full brim? What are the brim sizes of Bogie's fedora in Casablanca, and Indy's fedora, for reference...
They say, at least in America, the President helps in part to set the tone in terms of fashion, or reflects what is currently the norm. Early 20th century Presidents, in particular, TR and Taft, were rarely pictured with lids on their heads. If they were, it was rarely or for a solemn occasion...
Am curious too about adventure novels of or set in that time with a romantic streak. Like Richard Burton-esque.
I've just become fascinated with the era through odd inspiration: the opening scenes of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, which is in a flashback set in 1912. I know that the...
Are there any good adventure novels, along the lines of Indiana Jones, that were released in, or were set in, the Edwardian Era (1900-1914)?
Also, were there any good fun romps similar to The Hardy Boys in this period? I've kind of fallen in love with the era...
