Leather Jacket Collecting on a Budget

Dunno what the average price I've paid is. Only a few purchase costs stick in my head: my first was £25 when I was 17 for a Ketts cross zip, it seemed like a fortune at the time but it you forget how little money you have when you are that age. Circa 2000 I bought an old school Lewis Leathers...

What are your sunglasses of choice?

Oakley Fives 2.0 were my all time favourites, I think I have a wrapround shades shaped head. Recently I've been moving away from the off duty cricketer look though. Holidays in Italy have got me daydreaming about driving down the Amalfi coast in a Lancia Aurelia covered in Acqua di Parma and...

Is this suit pattern classic or indistinctly modern for old men?

Judging by the padding on the shoulders and three buttons I'd say this could be a 1990's suit made up either from new old stock cloth or a reintroduced older pattern. Three buttons had a moment in the 90's my first suit was from that era but hadn't been a significant look since I think the early...

When did the tacky practice of wearing brown shoes with blue suits become accepted?

There used to be an unwritten rule in Britain that it was "Black shoes; town, Brown shoes; country". Now "Town" might just have meant London, because that was how some hifalutin types referred to it even if they lived near another town instead. Over the last few years blue suits and brown shoes...

    Let's see your mechanical watches

From left Lorenz automatic, Invicta Pro Diver 8926 auto and on the right is a French made L.O.V Espadon (Swordfish) auto. The third one is a Berli-Lyon, which is a brand with hardly any net info. I once saw a posting on a French watch forum which pointed out that their logo is the same as the...

What do you wear under your jacket?

Yeah, sometimes when I just need to get my s@#t together and get out of the house it's grab and go. These are the days when I don't bother with socks either. Here's a cheeky "Cleavage shot".

    Leather Jacket categories

OK then, 1=0 2=6 3=18 EIGHTEEN!?! 4=0 5=0 6=0 7=3, albeit Ebay wins that had been tailored for other people. Cat 3 also includes an Ebay win blue TT Leathers cross zip in what feels like sheepskin, with old school "A" (Aero zip??) branded metal zips, that feels like it must have been mid 70's...

    Leather pants

Yeah, rock them Jadub! It's all about confidence, if you want them badly enough you can get it/ fake it. Rural Maine in winter is exactly where you should be wearing them. Start off in the house; in leathers you can turn the heating down...

    1970's style polo shirts

Old footage of the era and films set in the 1970's sometimes show guys wearing what I would describe as a polo shirt with no buttons. Obviously that isn't quite accurate, the open collar is designed in a v so that it can't overlap to fasten up even if there were buttons. So, what was this style...

    Jewellery, gents?

Watch apart I didn't wear jewelry at all for years. Then I got into body piercing, titanium mostly. I briefly had an eyebrow piercing but it rejected quickly, apart from that I've never had any piercings above the neck. I've contemplated an earing- in gold which is very out of character for me-...

Aero Leather Classic 60's Bike Trousers Review

Monitor, those are an awesome pair of jeans. There is something about proper leather motorcycle pants that feels very "Engineered" when you wear them. I love the dog leg hip pockets and have a couple of pairs of Lewis Leather pants like that myself. I've also seen this design detail on old...

    Cross zip nation

Yeah Edward I'm from England interesting that you picket that up from the jackets. I know they are considered a "British style" with the side tabs but Perfecto style jackets are probably as common here as well, so I could just as easily have gone for them I just happen to prefer the Brit cross...

Seam down the middle in the back - poll!

The vertical seam has to connect somewhere, either with a back yoke and/ or a kidney panel. Otherwise it just looks lost. Personally I think they look great with a V shaped back yoke. These are my Kett Leathers cross zips that both have the V shape back yoke, of the two I prefer the second one...

So far no one's suggested wearing nothing underneath.

    Cross zip nation

Second one is my newest Ketts. I've loved them for years as my first leather jacket was a Ketts. Someday I'll start a thread on them.

    Cross zip nation

Two more just touched down. A shagged-out no brand lancer that's my instant favourite. It's been down the road a few times. Right hand pocket had a snapped off front brake leaver in it. I'm pleased it's not just me that's ridden off with the disc lock on. Patina on this thing is awesome.

History of the "Cafe Racer" jacket.

I'm sure I never heard that style of jacket described as a cafe racer until I started following this site. However even in the 90's if some had said to me "Do you know so and so he always wears a leather cafe racer jacket", I think I'd have instinctively understood what that style looked like...
