OOh, I'm going to be spending alot of time looking at and saving photos on both of those sites. I've been perusing this site for inspiration, but wish it was organized by decades. I like that you can see several views

OH my Gosh! I found the only photo I...
This is from a book French Fashion Illustrations of the Twenties (copyright free) This is 1919
This is 1926:
This book shows one or two dresses like this almost every year of the 20's, so it was something the designers played with just to be different, but you sure don't see anything...
I used to have a silver silk 1920s dress which had a handkerchief hem just below the knees in front, to the floor in back, So about 1927-29 here, maybe earlier in Paris. It looked totally normal but inside the dress on each hip there was piece of hoop steel a foot long in a casing with a long...
If you look at these patterns, you can see that for much of the 30s it was a long slim look: long bias skirts lots of fluttery sleeves.

I saw dresses very similar at Pennys and Macys recently. Also wide legged trousers which I saw at several stores.
This...
It sometimes helps me if I focus on how will I feel if I goof off (miserable, like a failure, in a panic, berating myself, etc.). And how will I feel if I just do the darned thing (happy, like a load is off my shoulders, I deserve a treat, I'm being mature and responsible). You really can't go...
This site shows places to swing dance.

This page shows where to take lessons:

Also check your local community colleges and adult schools. They often have dance classes.
Let's face it, most people think you're a bit crazy if you're not like most of the people they know. How many of us feel the same way (at least a little bit?) about trekkies or Renaissance Faire people or hippies or some other group that really stands out and/or is into something we find stupid...
You can buy "buttonhole twist" thread which is much sturdier than regular thread, but most metal buttons will wear through the thread faster than plastic buttons will. Get in the habit of checking them regularly, before or after the garment is cleaned, so you won't have any surprises or lost...
According to this site which shows how to date the label, it was made between 1939 and 1949:

And this shows how to remake a man's suit into a woman's suit:

There was a fad in victorian times to put belladonna (also known as deadly nightshade-a very poisonous plant) in their eyes. "The common name belladonna originates from the historic use by women (Bella Donna is Italian for beautiful lady) to dilate their pupils in a time when it was believed...
I was really skinny all my life. At one time I tried eating 3 hot fudge sundaes every day besides regular meals, and didn't gain an ounce. My mother claimed she gained weight just watching me! I got sick of sundaes. As long as you're healthy and have energy, don't worry about it. I just tried to...
Ooh, I love it! Wouldn't that make a dramatic ball gown length dress? The shoulders are sort of just flying up into the air. We want to see the finished outfit.
I just saw The Human Comedy with Mickey Rooney 1943, about life in a small town during the war. There is a scene where Donna Reed and her friend are walking down Main street in transparent vinyl raincoats and matching rain hats and umbrellas and meet some soldiers. I think LD is right-they...
This is certainly a good time to be doing 1930 era plays. I was at the mall yesterday and there are lots of mid calf length skirts, and even chiffon dresses with fluttery sleeves and a tulip hem which was almost an exact 1930 replica except out of polyester of course.
Didn't the cigarette girls wear very short, very full skirts with lots of ruffly slips underneath? This picture is more 1920s
This is supposed to be a cigarette girl uniform. But did they all wear uniforms?
I think one problem would be that almost all the women we see in old catalogs and movies are young thin women. Quite often, ordinary people don't have the sillouette we expect even if they are wearing the right clothes. I know it was a shock to me the first time I saw pictures of my old, heavy...
