    War movie editing errors

I'm not trying to be an apologist for the filmmakers, however I am one so I see this from the perspective of the film makers. It is rarely a case of the film maker wanting to to present something wrong, but rather more often than not they simply don't have a choice. Often the film makers have...

    War movie editing errors

Yes but in the case of Kingdom of Heaven, they are going more with modern taste than historical accuracy. They know full well what they are doing isn't correct, but are doing it because they think the correct version will be thought to look silly by a modern audience, and they are probably...

But you see thats just it, it DOES cost more, and the people who know AREN'T a major market. They may represent $100,000 at the box office for a movie that has to make $200 million. There is a famous story about David O. Selznick. On Gone with the Wind, one of the actresses thought was crazy...

Yes but you are just one of those few people who would notice that. There is another who would notice that the hedges are native to England and not France. Then there is the guy who would notice that while the Jeep is right, the tires on it are wrong. The list could go on and on and on. If you...

Probably quite true. And the fact of the matter is that 99.9% of the audience isn't going to know the difference anyway so why quibble. It does add an air of authenticity even if its inaccurate in the very fine details. Doug

    War movie editing errors

Well to be fair, most films have not had the budget to buy or build their own tanks and other equipment (unlike BOB and SPR) and they have to get cooperation from various military organizations. More often than not they have to take what they can get when it comes to things like tanks. Doug

Its also the same 4 C-47s taking off over and over again. It appears they only had 4 C-47s to shoot with. Even the shots where there are 7 or 8 planes in the sky in the distance, is the same 4 planes reproduced over and over again. Doug

Wow thats fantastic Lizzie! I envy you. We have nothing left like that in Phoenix. Well I take that back, we do have the Orpheum, but the only show silent films and only a few weekends a month. Its always been my dream to find an old theater (or recreate one) and show classic films. Doug

    War interest but never served

Historians are rarely directly involved with the history they are reporting on. Even if that history is happening right in front of them, IE Edward R. Murrow, or Wolf Blitzer. Of course these men are professional reporters. Those who become interested in the events, say those who are WW2...

I would say that no thats not what all acting is about. The cast of a movie, or a stage play for that matter, are in a way like the instruments of a symphony orchestra. The solo instruments, the trumpet, french horn, violin etc, tend to be bold. They have a sound that is distinctive and...

I was trying to think of a classic actor with whom I could compare them, but couldn't think of one . Muni is right on the money! Doug

I'm not sure. I was about 14 when 1941 came out. I live in Arizona which isn't that much different from California (I know having lived in LA for about 3 years) culturally. I think it comes down to some comedy works for some people and not others and there is no accounting for it. For the record...

Wayne and Stewart were movie stars in the best sense of the word. They were solid and carried the movie on their backs, allowing the character actors around them to do their thing. A perfect example is Rio Bravo. Wayne is the rock in that movie, and he allows Dean Martin, Walter Brennan and to...

I don't think of R2 so much as the hero, but rather the plucky side kick who often saves the day. R2 is Fezzik to Luke's Inigo Montoya. In reality R2 and 3P0 are the elements that were most directly taken from Hidden Fortress, and remain almost unchanged through out all 6 movies. Doug

Luke went from being an old man to being a 13 year old girl to a 50 year old General and back to a girl and finally the 20 year old boy we see in the film. Of course the old man became Ben at some point. The girl became Leia. Han seems to be one of the few characters who really didn't change all...

True, but there are many people who find both Wayne and Bogey annoying. Probably more so Wayne than Bogey, but I know a few who just can't watch Bogart and wonder why he was a romantic lead. Doug

Your point is well taken because my personal opinion is that 1941 is one of the funniest movies ever made. I often can't breath from laughing so hard! Doug
