It's so silly, I have dark eyebrows with high arches, but my boyfriend really likes the straight, slightly sad Louise Brooks-kind! In the past, when he's been going "look what pretty eyebrows she has" over some actress I've tried to pluck mine straight, but it's just impossible because of the...
A tip for all you fellow European girls: Right now there's a seller on ebay.co.uk called afrobest that sells Lottabody for CHEap. I'm waiting for my bottle to arrive :)
I was wondering what you do with it - do you spray it on wet/damp hair undiluted, or do you cut it down with water and...
I was going to say the same thing. Removing all of one's body hair seems to be the norm here, judging from the women in the locker room at the public swimming pool. I don't get it, who wants to look like a little girl? No offense to those who shave all over, but to me it just doesn't look...
I'd be delighted! :) It's really very easy and fun, you just need beeswax (or candelilla wax if vegan) and some kind of vegetable butter like shea, cocoa or coconut as a base. To that you add any combination of vegetable oils and some essential oil. I've only made one batch, I scented it with...
This thread is great!
I sometimes make a facial mask out of mashed papaya or mango fruit mixed with yoghurt, honey and oatmeal. The fruit enzymes *really* brighten up my complexion. I can use it because I have rough, oily, olive-toned skin, but I wouldn't try it if i had sensitive skin. (Now...
I've heard that here in Denmark during WW2 housewives would send crocheted squares to each other via chain letters and hope to eventually end up with enough squares to make a blanket!
I have a fashion history book that has a different version of that bikini photo, where the girl has her back towards the camera, and well... let's just say that it doesn't provide the regular full bum coverage of the 50s! It's more like what you would call a brazilian brief today, it only has a...
There's lots of flat and low-heeled espadrilles in this shop:

I plan on getting a pair of the "Rita"s in yellow or navy... but it's hard to decide as there are so many cute styles there.
Lizzie, your skirt collection is fabulous! I adore those silly prints, particularly the 'funny face' one with the gendarme, thief and beatniks made me swoon!
I only have one novelty print skirt, it's postcards from Italy with tourist sight motifs and handwritten greetings in Italian on a...
KittyT - I think I've read somewhere that it's called French Manicure because some American business guy visited France in ... the early 60s I think? (don't quote me on that) and noticed that the French secretaries in the offices wore nude shades of nailpolish and painted the underside of their...

So many cute details! The manicure, the seamed stockings, the "gay pink snood", names like "Doris" and "Gladys" ...
(Sorry if this has been posted somewhere already ...)
Such many great posts! :)
I have a wide dark bottle green suede belt from the 50's, but I can't figure out what to wear with that colour. All I can come up with is a light gray short sleeve sweater or ditto in cream. It's a really dark green so it has to be a lighter colour. Maybe sunny...
I have so little imagination when it comes to putting colours together - although I really like the bold colour clashes of the 30s-50s I always inadvertently go for some really conventional colour combinations. So I was wondering which colours you ladies like to pair?
Also, I found this...
Some people's attitude towards vintage clothes actually remind me of myself when I was in my early 20's. I was very much into rare twee indie music from the 1980s and looked with disdain at music fans who didn't bother ("weren't dedicated enough") to hunt down the original 7" records and vinyl...
Ooh la, thanks for the tip about this company. They have the 50's kind of matte slightly bluish dove gray eyeshadow that I've been looking for for a long time.
I thought this might be of interest to some: Dubarry Bloom Cream Cheek Tint Rouge with a very cute 50s looking (old stock?) packaging.
There's also a Powder Cheek Tint:
They also carry Anita D'Fogeds Daydew make-up line which was allegedly Marilyn's choice of foundation!
It's not...
About the conditioner as shampoo-thing ... I noticed it makes a big difference if I use a silicone-free conditioner or one with only very little silicone in it (I use JASON Jojoba conditioner) instead of a deep-conditioning one, because all the silicones will build up within just a weeks use and...
Hooray, another mineral make-up fan! I use the foundation from Lily Lolo and I'm very impressed with it. Unfortunately the mineral foundation does go cakey if I apply it over my spf 50 sunscreen - but then again they say that the minerals naturally act as a sunscreen.
Sigh, the vast problems...
LD, your cape is fabulous! And the dress too ... it's amazing you can whip up something like that in 10 hours. I'm sure it would have taken me two months!
Go see a homeopath. And a 'normal' doctor too.
A friend of mine had the same problem (it turned out she had some kind of digestive defect) and a homeopath put her on a special diet which has made her feel a lot better.
