    Downton Abbey - I'm hooked

Wasn't Edith's wedding dress beautiful? I thought it was prettier than Mary's. I must admit this past episode does seem pretty soap opera-ish. I actually like Edith the best, she seems more dimensional to me. Mary is uptight and Sybil seems too sweet.

DEATHS ; Notable Passings; The Thread to Pay Last Respects

My family and I will miss Huell! He was such a big part of our lives since we are a history loving family. Actually, my grandpa and son can't seem to stop talking about him. Grandpa says if felt like you knew him even if you never met him. He even is talking about his shows that made an impact...

    Good Deeds: Done Any Lately?

HD, what kind and generous people you and your wife are! Bless you both! I pulled up to pay for my order at In-n-Out's drive thru and found that the person ahead of me paid for my meal. I was floored!!! I then paid for the car behind me. Didn't even think about it, just wanted to pass the...

Vintage Things That Have Disappeared In Your Lifetime?

I am so glad that there are many communities that still get to enjoy church bells! Not so around here. There are quite a few churches in my community, two just around the corner but the bells don't ring anymore.

Vintage Things That Have Disappeared In Your Lifetime?

I don't know if this has been said already or even if it is vintage or not; but I miss the sound of church bells. I heard them quite a lot growing up and miss their comforting of sound. Most cities don't allow them to ring anymore because of noise ordinance. Actually, the Buddhist Temple in...

Do You Know Any Living WWII Veterans?

My grandpa is a WWII vet. He is 90, now, and still doing pretty good, even after breaking a hip at 89. He is of strong stock! Grandpa has two purple hearts from his tour in Europe. I am not sure what the name of the unit is but his job was to protect the tanks. His first injury was being blown...

    Who is today's Steve McQueen?

I always thought Anthony Michael Hall, circa Dead Zone period, (sorry, I can't seem to post an image) looked a lot like Steve McQueen. But as for the "coolness" factor, as stated by others in this thread, the contemporary idea of cool has changed and I don't think there is anybody currently with...

    Who is today's Steve McQueen?

Steve McQueen's whole screen persona was cool. If you watch the Wanted Dead or Alive series you can see how he worked on it. I think he was cool off-screen because he was a good dad, per Chad McQueen and a good ex-husband per his first ex-wife Neile Adams, philanthropically inclined and followed...

DEATHS ; Notable Passings; The Thread to Pay Last Respects

Thanks, HoosierDaddy, for posting the link to Pretty Saro by Doc Watson. He evokes such emotion in it that I can almost feel how scared the men and women must have felt coming to this great big country, not knowing what to expect. He will be missed greatly.

    Baking powder facial scrub

I just started using it regularly and I love it! I was at the makeup counter the other day and asked for facial scrub, the clerk let me try a sample of a real expensive scrub and the texture was just like that of baking soda. I will continue to use the "cheap" stuff.
