You are right on the mark. Just remember during WW2 the average airman was a size 36 chest and about 5ft 5 to 5ft 6. Now the average is a 42 chest and 5ft 10. Again these are averages. But it does explain why there are so many 36 , 38, and 40 jackets and not a lot over 42. People were...
Yes these are the real deal NOS WW2 zippers. So you are buying the real deal not a repro. I bought one of their last crowns for 75 bucks which I thought was a lot. One just sold on ebay for 170 bucks. Good investment. I think MASH also has the talon with the talon on the zipper box. These...
I order NOS WW2 talons from MASH in Japan. Here is there website on the talon zip page.

If you send an email to them Yoshi will answer in english. They are very good zippers (used them on three of my jackets)...
Use this page for some measurements on FS.

For 32 bucks get the FS much better jacket. Yes FS has a more generous cut so check out the site above. Also their customer service can work we you on the exact size you need.
First, I think your picture is of a triple mark talon. Does it say talon underneath? If it does it is triple marked.
You do ask a really good question about dating and wished I had an answer for you. Most of the triple marked talons with the art deco box (in the box was the word talon) were...
He does have an entire part of the site devoted to size measurements for reproductions which is very useful. There are also some good impressions of some of the reproduction jackets which can lead one to determine what is proper and what is not.
There is a flight jacket CD by John Chapman...
Paddy,
Did some serious horse tradinglol I traded two originals for it. But I am chuffed with it as well. Everytime I wear it I am amazed that this is an original it looks so nice.
I posted these before but the Buzz 21996 model (which is the aero 21996 model) is a very nice jacket and comes with a crown zipper.
Of course with that comes a hefty price tag also. The jacket is breaking in nicely. I have to get some recent shots of it to show how this "bronco hide"...
Have had both goatskin and HH from FS and they are very fine jackets and well worth the money. Customer service is very good. Heck they called after I got my jacket to make sure everything was ok. You can't beat that. I think I agree with Doc Strange have a variety of jackets. I have Buzz...
I got all my originals from ebay or other "Jacket nuts" like me. Ebay is a good source but you must be careful (there are fakes out there). You picked two tough jackets to get. Doniger I have only seen a few on ebay and only one original WW2 Cooper on ebay (not the new ones). Roughwear...
Just got this original Monarch sized 46 but really a 44 (as it matches my original size 44 Doniger exactly). Horsehide is superb and heavy. Only downsides are the knits, which I will be replacing, and the replaced liner which catches on the zipper (which can be fixed easy). Nice triple marked...
Scott,
Great looking jacket. I know what you mean about losing weight and then the jacket doesn't fit. But you can always sell that and get another one. Hey what cigar were you smoking? I like CAOs when walking the dogs and wearing my flight jackets.;)
It is interesting my Buzz RW fits perfectly not too loose not too tight size 42. My RMNZ RW size 44 fits snug but not overly snug. My Dubow RMNZ 46 fits about like the Buzz RW in some ways. So as you can see every jacket fits a bit different. Still like everyone of those.
Lets see it was 71 on Friday, 75 on Sat and 65 today. Wore an A2 on Sat and had to take it off too hot. Today I was able to wear one in the morning during the walk the dogs time and maybe tonite when I walk them again. My B-6 sits forelorn in the closet I think its done for the season.
