    Pomade

I remember it fondly. Now it has been so long that I cannot for sure report whether or not it was so much better than the other things I now use, or has become a legend in my mind. For the most part, as a gel I prefer the Firm Hold version of American Crew. Tenax did keep things in place...

    Pomade

I remember Tenax by R&G and promise you that it no longer exists. I used it quite a bit in the early to mid 1980's and still proudly have an (empty) bottle of it displayed in the bathroom as a memento of my (hair's) youth!

    What are you listening to?

While the kids nap and I am surfing the net, I have the Ray Noble Orchestra (with Al Bowlley) playing. Great 1930's Dance Band stuff. The singer Al was killed in a German bombing raid. Because of just one song, I took notice and now own 14 discs of their work!

    Pomade

I have long hair and need to use some sort of hair care product so that my hair doesn't curl up and become a bird's nest. For most days, the American Crew firm hold gel, or Nexxus Exxtra Gel with some hair spray to hold it does the trick. For those special occasions, I do break out the...

    Travelsmith's packable panama ?

Hi, I bought an earlier version of this hat from Travelsmith in 2001. I took it on a 2 week trip through Thailand. It came nicely folded, but held its creases and fold. It was a decent hat to have with me in Thailand, but I was less than satisfied with the notable folds in the hat- even when...

    Won a Mallory

I was watching that hat and came so close to placing a late bid for it. In the end, I did not. It is a very nice looking vintage hat...enjoy! Be well, Rob

The old page, with the special prices is not available...or is it too late already? Rob

    question re hat colors

Some awesome (and educational) ads here! If someone published a book with reprints of ads like these, it would sit proudly on my coffee table. (Well, I don't actually have a coffee table, but I would buy it and sit it somewhere!) Rob

    Any Cigar Afficionados Out There?

Ahhh... three large humidors full! Unfortunately, my time is not my own since the birth of my two year old, so smoke time is not what it used to be. I don't smoke indoors and generally enjoyed a smoke on the deck after work when the NY weather allowed. I don't/can't smoke at work...

    James Lock and Co.

I didn't pay, wasn't drunk on cheap tequila and after all of that...if I did, I certainly wouldn't share the evidence! Thanks for the welcome, Art! Rob

In a Mexican bordertown (Tijuana) I saw a mule painted (poorly, I might add!) with white stripes and an opportunity to have my picture taken with a "zebra" for several bucks!

New guy chiming in - with question

Will do! I had a meeting in Manhattan today, so I was dressed in my suit, tie, long coat and the new hat...looked pretty nice. Because it is a shorter brim than I ever wore before, my wife initially concluded that the hat was too small. Even a day (and two wearings) later, it doesn't seem as...

New guy chiming in - with question

I got my first "eBay" hat today...a short brimmed Champ in awesome condition. I never wore such a narrow brim, but it looks really good. I was so glad that I had to go out tonight so I could get some time under the brim! Rob

New guy chiming in - with question

Greetings and welcome to the Lounge. I am a new member too, and also live on Long Island, NY (Long Beach). I have worn fedoras for years, but have taken a more keen interest in the hats beyond pure utility. I recently won two hats on eBay. They looked good, and given the low cost, they...

    Perfumes that reach us...

In my single days of many yesteryears, a rather sensuous girlfriend of mine used to wear "Poison". I quickly got used to the allure of the fragrance on her. I couldn't help but think of her in the most passionate of ways when I smelled that fragrance. The olfactory memory lasted beyond the...

A quick simple question...what is Velour?

I checked out Art's website a few times and only saw some vintage hats. Interestingly, I did not see, or could not find the page in the helpful link below.

A quick simple question...what is Velour?

Thanks for the response. It isn't really my preference in a fedora finish, but I was wondering about what "velour" in the vintage hat listings referred to. Rob

A quick simple question...what is Velour?

Hi, I am new to this wonderful forum, but not new to wearing a fedora. For the last several years, I have gotten some great mileage out of a fur felt (unlined) fedora I bought from Orvis on clearance. Before that, I wore Lite Felt wool fedoras. Now that the Orvis has seen its better years...
