"The Pacific" - can it possibly live up to expectations?

It wouldn't be Eugene Sledge would it? With the Old Breed, at Peleliu and Okinawa is an amazing book.

    Goodwill buys

Yes, $150 does seem like a lot (sharp intake of breath through clenched teeth), but in that condition I'd do it too. Do you pay a lot for alterations, or are these ready to go?

Let's See Your Watches! The Vintage Watch Thread.

I own one quartz watch for working on the car and under the house etc, otherwise they are all mechanical. I buy in fits and starts and try to limit myself to nothing over $100, or then it becomes a significant purchase and I start to feel prudent and don't go ahead:rolleyes: . Its still a lot...

    Goodwill buys

Charcoal grey single breasted Hugo Boss 3 button suit. I like the fact it has no vents and only cost me $30 at the Salvo's. I'm wearing it now. Talbot

"The Pacific" - can it possibly live up to expectations?

Shangas, Check out the book 'Helmet For My Pillow' by Robert Leckie. He was a Marine involved in some of the pivotal battles in the pacific. He briefly mentions being on leave staying in Dandenong and soldiers being shot at by MP's in Richmond (?) Anyway, Melbourne is there and the book is...

Rara Avis - What rare WWII aircraft would you like to see flying?

How about the pitch on those contra rotating props! Whatever happened to the American entry into the 1929 race, the Mercury Racer? While I'm slightly O/T (its too early), I musty confess a love for the Boeing P26.

Rara Avis - What rare WWII aircraft would you like to see flying?

Boeing XB-15 perhaps? Apols - I can't post pics from here at work. Only one built, so qualifies as rare. Despite the 'X' designation it was converted into a transport and served throughout the war in the Carribean as a transport. Scrapped in 1945:(

    Golden-Era Hot-Rodding

David, The rules on registering LHD cars have been relaxed over the years in Victoria so he'll probably have no difficulty. I've known him for some 30 years and he's pretty much the most die hard guy I've ever known for era correctness. He prefers to lurk, but he's pretty well...

Let's See Your Watches! The Vintage Watch Thread.

Silvana watch: date of foundation as 1868. Minutes of the "Association Cantonale Bernoise de Fabricants d'Horlogerie" state that Silvana envolved from the split of the A. Reymond S.A., Tramelan. The Manufacture d'Horlogerie A. Reymond S.A. was founded in 1898. Therefore the first Silvana watches...
