@1955mercury ..."Just picked up this Navy Arms 1860 Henry in 44-40".... Always liked a good lever action and the old Henry's in brass look great! Now you need a 44-40 in a pistol just like they used to do it.......only need one kind of ammo for both when you're out on the trail..........

@Stringmaster .........Yep got almost the whole thing going.....Nice hat, Fancy Wild rag, vest, chinks, riding heel boots, you could almost get away with some spurs too.....Don't know if you could play very well in some cuffs though.......
Looks good !! :)

Thanks Desert Dog! Good to know...This had to be someone's special occasion hat, it's so clean and well kept. Do you happen to recall if the inside of the hats you worked on looked like this one? The newer Bailey 100x have that stamping of "100" done up with a bunch of X's surrounding it.

Here's an ebay find I stumbled across, I sure wasn't looking for a Bailey and have never owned one before. I always thought they were and are a middle of the road hat as far as quality. This one however is pure beaver and is as far as I can tell very vintage from the crease and lack of markings...
@GHT :) LOL Thanks........I knew in the back of my mind that the quote and the people where notable!.........Churchill really had a sharp tongue!
thanks again

I know I could probably just Google it and find out....but what's the fun in that when I can share with you good people. The faintly remembered quote was in the following situation..........A man and a woman where having a confrontation and the woman says " If you were my husband I would poison...
I can't say I like a shovel front much either, but I sure understand them it's a function over form thing. It functions quite well to give you unobstructed field of view and provides more shade. After all, hats are equipment and do have a actual function the fact that they can express style is...
Ok, Here's a photo of a hat worn by Tom Berenger in Last of the Dogmen. I find the crease kind of different and I like it.........What say you?......
BTW HJ, you also might try Rawhide Cream if you come across it, it's for softening and conditioning rawhide. I use it to soften rawhide Bosals...
@Joao Encarnado said: "I think the last one is not called "cattleman". I would go for the last one."
Well Joao I sort of like the last one too...I also like the second one but not as much. As for the last one not being a cattleman I don't know for certain but then again it's an Akubra which is...
@Joao Encarnado said: "Did it changed color!?"
No, it's just the picture, it's indoors and with flash, not out in the sun.
@Michael R. Said: "I like a Cattleman Crease , plus a bunch more . It is a personal preference thing , plus what the Hat would look right with"
It's more about what the hat...
@Michael R. Yes it is. There is a retail in Santa Fe but the shop is at the ranch between Albuquerque and Santa Fe.
It's a 6 inch crown...........

Been pretty busy lately but I did manage a drive out to the Davis place to get my latest hat rebuilt. I had posted this in the "post new hats" thread and I think most of you have seen it already. It's a beaver Brand pure beaver with a 3 1/2 inch brim.
The sweat was OK but the reed was shot...
@Hurricane Jack said: "I would say you understand the concept & that is a pretty standard drawdown of the brim in front."
Thanks Jack.....Just a confusion of terms used........:)

PS: Really liked your picture of Ben Johnson.....One of the most under appreciated western actors..........
Ok, as promised, here is one of my riding hats, it's a Resistol with a 3 1/2 inch brim. I've posted a couple of angles so you can see it..... let me know what you think, to see if we are on the same page. The hat band is my own work and so is the stampede string.........

@DocCasualty said: "I don't mean to be nit picky but think you meant Montana crease, not peak. Unless I'm confused this is a Montana Peak"
Yep, you're right... I meant to quote HJ.... Montana Crease....don't know what I was thinking.....:)
@Hurricane Jack Ah Ha..... Now I know what you mean...
@Hurricane Jack Said: "I like what has become known as the Old West style. My favorite crease is probably the Tom Horn. The brims I prefer usually fall in the range of 3-1/4" to 4" wide. I want my brims to be fairly flat with maybe just a bit of swoop in the front. I don't want much if any...
@Hurricane Jack That's quite the collection you have! I'm also pleased that you called it like it should be.... it's a "Tom Horn" or "Montana Peak" not a "Gus"....
Just one of those nit picky kind of things.....but....
They're all nice but my favorite is the O'Farrell... I really like the color...
@Mustang Mike's Hats Yeah I can see where that would be tough to do, you do know what I'm talking about though and need to be I would think being in the business and all. Maybe you could post some customs that you've done and give a little narrative as to why and what the customer wanted as to...
Ok, not too long ago I posted about brim width and how you like the brim rolled. @Michael R. pointed out and rightfully so that brim width is measured from the crown out to the edge of the brim. Well I guess I didn't get my point across very well. What I want to get at is that overall it makes a...
