    Plaid Wool Mackinaws

Thanks! I'd love to check out one of those River Junction ones in person. I know Will mentioned they were pretty heavy, but this original coat is MAJORLY warm! Several Japanese companies have made a version of this one. But I can't imagine they are really intended for zero degree weather.

    What are you wearing today??

Thanks a lot! That's really funny you mention Django Reinhardt, I just heard that today from someone else! There must be some truth to it [huh] And... Dr. Gogol (my dog) is SOOOO house trained, he's always on his best behavior! :D Mike in Seattle - you're probably right, too distracting...

I'm experimenting on where I can get the best picture in my apartment.

Sorry these are as dark as they are... BUT what you've got here is an original vintage shawl collared, standard issue railroad jacket. I'm not 100% sure of the exact time these started or finished being produced, certainly 20's if not way before through possibly 50's...? It is unlined, but...

This of course begs the question of WHAT IF... someone like Marcel Duchamp or the Baroness Elsa Von Freytag-Loringhoven had threw their artistic beliefs out of the window and created their own line of clothing or accessories... Eggbeaters attached to licorice to be hung around ones neck...

The Dali exhibit mentioned how he was the great self-exploiter by offering his services for a price to individuals looking for a portrait of themselves. Jack Warner, for one, took Dali up on the offer. The wholesale selling of ones art was apparently not received well by fellow surrealists. I...

Oh! I've never seen those! Were those produced on a large scale?

    The Wolfman Remade

I just heard that the script was in development hell for years & the release date was pushed back multiple times over the last few years to allow for many reshoots and last minute script revisions. That's a REALLY bad sign. I'm planning on going to the opening night midnight screening and...

Good to know, thanks! But I think this is it for my Dali tie collecting, they virtually always go far out of my price range. Did you see the Dali exhibit when it was at LACMA? I was surprised they didn't really go into detail about the ties and how he was truly the only surrealist artist at...

Anyone know if all the Dali ties were issued at the same time, or several years apart? This one doesn't look like it might not belong to the same series as the grouping that were all titled on the back, like the Harlequin design for instance. I have a really interesting mock-Dali surrealism...

    Shawl Collar Mackinaws

That's surprising! My horsehide trimmed, black wool shawl collared rail road coat is quite warm, and is often my go-to coat for the depths of winter. The horsehide is really hurting in a few spots. I think for next season I'm going to have Aero Leathers replace all the horsehide.

Nerd Culture in the 1920's and 30's

And in my opinion, the first 20th Century punks were the Dadaists & perhaps the Futurists prior to WW1. All of which communicated via manifesto newsletters and often wound up relocating to various spots on the globe to form productive communities. Didn't Jayne County, the Cramps, Dead Boys...

Plus, come to think of it, 99% of the time if there is a modern-made actionback center-pleated jacket, it's on a woman's jacket! :eusa_doh: I guess mainstream menswear designers think these sort of features are too flashy for the average dude. They're probably right. Le sigh...

As a whole, there is a lot going on. It would just take the right person to pull it off. I'm not surprised that elements of this could be referenced on a modern coat meant for women.

I think that original one is so cool, but would be hard to pull off today on a male. I remember a friend of Forgotten Man was fortunate enough to win the coat, wish we could see pictures! (hint, hint :p )

Nerd Culture in the 1920's and 30's

I know that early sci-fi fans, back in the mid 1920's when it was still called Scientifiction, had Amazing Stories and various similar magazines run by Hugo Gernsback. These magazines gave golden era fans their fix of new and classic stories of far away worlds and incredible technology. The...
