    Post New Hats Here!

The 40’s Cav I have has a four digit block number starting with the numeral 5, as do the photos of factory labels I have seen in the Hatted Professor. Could the first digit in your block number be a 5? It’s a bit hard to make out in your photo. But, the proof is in the puddin’. Beauty!

What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

Yep, looks like a pup to me. How’s he have so many beautiful hats? I’m always embarrassed to ask personal questions. (I know you’re listening)

    Beautiful condition, considering the years.

SHOW US YOUR VINTAGE STINGYS ! (No New hats please Vintage only)

I’m not sure if this is considered vintage or not. It has a frayed cloth size tag. I don’t wear it, but I guess I can embrace it. Very stingy at 1.75”

    Stetson Hemp Stratoliner

I have bought several hemp Strats from One2Mini. One was worn every day last summer (still have 2 for backups). I find it to be not light, but with good air circulation. Washed well in soapy water and became soft, while still retaining its shape. Totally satisfied with the seller and the product.

    Stetson Hemp Stratoliner

Here’s two hemp Strats in sage. The one on left is unworn. The other has seen much sun and soil from construction sites and been washed once or twice. Personally, I like both the faded and non.

    Still Life with Hats . . .

Rock ID can be difficult from 1000 miles. Could be quartzite, could be feldspar from an intrusive dyke, could be something else. For sure, it wears that beautiful hat better than I ever could.

Thanks, Tucson was a total dust bowl this year, preferred to leave what I could there. Next up is a new air filter. This one must have chunks in it.

    STEP BY STEP NAPTHA BATH

I had an extremely dirty OPS Stratoliner that I washed the liner first with woolite. The results were not remarkable. I then rinsed in naptha while I was giving the hat a bath, resulting in a relatively clean liner but with definitely faded printing. But hey, it’s clean. One other thing I found...

Ha! Sounds rhetorical. It’s decided to move back East for awhile.

Thanks Ant, what put the nail in my assumption was the factory label has a closed serif numeral 4, as pictured in 40’s examples in The Hatted Professor, as does mine, whereas the 50’s example has a opened top numeral 4. I’d love that felt if it was made tomorrow.

Assuming 1940’s, please correct if wrong or please advise if there is a more narrow window. Frayed bow end, 5.5” open crown, 2.5” brim I haven’t creased as yet, it’s willing for anything.

This proves sometimes things come when one is not looking, and unaware of the possibilities. The liner looked like a jewel box when I saw it.

Thank you, and well, yes. It was my first experience of handling anything like it. Awestruck!
