You're welcome. I am 5'10.5" (just have to add the 1/2"!!!), 180 lbs, 42 chest, 44 expanded. Longish arms. I wear 33 or 34" jeans. No way could I fit in a 40. I couldn't layer much at all until just recently when the jacket started to loosen up. Even now its a snug fit with layering.
Might want...
I’ve got the Thurston special version of this jacket in Whidbey cowhide. It’s an incredibly well made jacket. Weighs in at 6lbs or so. I haven’t seen or felt the competition cowhide version so can’t speak to that. Mine does not have collar snaps but does have provision for a snap in quilted...
There is a thread started by Holly of Aero that explains how they base their measurements according to the year/vintage they are aiming for. It uses a size 42 as an example. It's doesn't entirely answer your question, but it's helpful. Here you go...
It’s not that I’m soured on 5*. I’m more pissed at myself for not bird dogging a couple details like I should have.
I understand why so many here go back for a 2nd, 3rd or more jacket. Once you nail the design and fit, it’s a very good value proposition.
My expectations were probably...
I’ve had to have a hissy fit with him a couple times. I was ready to pull the pin and asked a fellow member here via DM, and he counselled patience.
My experience was ask three questions and you get an answer to one. Make the queries simple. One question at a time. I use whatsapp and could see...
I just had a peak, looks like some new designs added? Can’t say if they’re customer designs or not though. So many of these designs are similar though.
More about the hassle of having to get it altered, the overall cost now, and the alterations not 100% correcting the issues. You know what its like, invest a lot of skin in it and the details that most people don’t and won’t see still aren’t perfect.
However, I can wear it now and not feel like...
Trimmed the front back and sides. It’s not perfect, but mostly doesn’t look like I’m wearing a shirt anymore. Am I happy? Nope, but this is as good as I’m going to get.
My 5* exercise is now over, Aero Sheene fit jacket arriving soon!
This thread reminds me of the old VO5 hair shampoo commercial, immortalized by Wayne and Garth.
When I studied marketing many moons ago, before the interweb changed everything, there was an old axiom- If you’re dissatisfied you’ll tell 12 times more people that if you’re satisfied.
Or another...
I have another jacket, 1.4 mm cowhide. The rough out side is tight, dense and the leather is heavy. That jacket weighs 6lbs.
The rough out side of this leather is looser, not as dense. Might explain the difference in weight.
The top coat of this leather however is tough, won’t scratch easy. If...
Soft, light, pliable. Definitely not heavy, stiff or firm. The jacket weights 4lbs. The thickness surprised me actually as based on feel and weight I’d have thought it would measure out thinner. The grain is fabulous however.
I should add, the colour is close to a blackened brown. Very dark...
