    Post New Hats Here!

If you're referring to this hat, 80s is probably right. It's got the square size tag (a late 60s change, and the addition of the metric part came much later), the black sweat (I can't remember when these started - 70s?), and the liner is not the same. The liner logo in your hat looks very new by...

    Post New Hats Here!

I don't recall the one you posted, but there's no way it's the same as this one - or the person who gave you the estimate was mistaken. The size tag is probably the biggest give-away that this one is a 60s hat.

    Repairing an unreeded sweat

I wanted to keep the original sweat on my Playboy, so I took it to a local milliner. The repair is nowhere near as good as a new, reeded sweat would be, but I like having the original in the hat. My mom is a "preferred customer" there, so the owner refused my payment. When I asked this same...

    Early STETSON Models- ads Pre-Depression

A couple of the derbies in the 1916 catalog say that they're available in "all proportions". I guess that the shape of the curl, the shape of the crown, and maybe the felt characteristics are the distinguishing characteristics of those models, as crown height and brim were advertised as...

Ask a question, get an answer

The Playboy II is a later hat. I don't believe that the two existed at the same time. The II tends to have those later proportions - narrower brim, shorter and more tapered crown, etc. Having said that, I've seen huge variations in both models, so it's impossible to say that the "standard...
