Personally, I don't think anybody can tell fur felt from wool looking at period photos of 60 to 80 years ago. I also don't think any wool lids from back then worn regularly would still be around. The answer to your question lies in what collection of NOS hats have been found & how many examples...
Only Biltmore knows...My other one, Silverbelly, has Wilderness there, like on the liner = Wilderness Collection.

What they told us at the last tour of Winchester factory is for the dark colors, they dye the felt blanks right off. For the lite colors, they bleach the raw felt blanks & then dye them to get the right hues of the lite colors. This bleaching makes the felt physically lighter = takes some heft...

The Biltmore OR is not a big as a 61 Campdraft.
It is more like the 7 5/8 Stetson I sold you but not as round.
