    Lost pilot no more

GORHAM — John Hoskin remembers what his family thought after his older brother's plane failed to return from a test flight over the Alaskan wilderness during World War II. "We all figured he was going to walk out some day," Hoskin said. But 2nd Lt. Harold Hoskin, an Army Air Corps pilot, never...

    Vintage Coffee Makers

What I like about the vintage percolators is that you don't need to use store bought filters. The inner chamber is designed perfectly so that not one coffee grind makes it into the pot.

    Vintage Phones

I have been trying to find 1950's rotary phones here in Maine and all I'm finding are overpriced non-working models that aren't even sexy (I don't want a beige phone.). I put a "wanted" ad on craigslist but haven't gotten any replies. I guess I'm going to have to pay a lot and get one on ebay. :(

    "The Death of the Grown-up"

"Ms. West, a columnist for the Washington Times, argues that the country is suffering a case of arrested development, with teen tastes and desires eclipsing traditional adult conduct and values. A good deal of evidence supports her. An obsession with play and self-expression and a resistance to...

    Santa Claus Is Over

Yes. I do not have children, but my opinion is that there are some kids that have plenty of reality at too young an age and need something to believe in, even if fictional. A young mind not yet able to fully reason that believes in myths and fairy tales does not make that child...

I think the Stones will still be touring, too. :)

Fashion Disasters OR Discovering My Inner Snob

I know that as a young adult I was most appreciative of that kind of gentle & courteous mentoring. I am most grateful to those who took the time and care to do so.

    "The Death of the Grown-up"

Eh, I will be 40 next year* and am prone to giggle fits. I hope that never goes away. I am not balding but can get into some heavy metal if I'm in the mood. I love to watch the aging doo-wopers on PBS before bed, and they sure look like they are having fun! I wear whatever I want to work- I work...

This site can save your life

Pretty much. I try and buy from local farmer's markets when possible. That what makes things scary- that so much of our food is a mystery.

Fashion Disasters OR Discovering My Inner Snob

I think it's admirable that someone should exhibit such pride in his father. Also, the Marine Corps is far more than shoe shining, especially passing that practice down to your children. ;) Personally I always accept a respectful and honest compliment graciously, even if I have nothing...

    The Craft of Memory

You know my taste well. :) One thing I want to add- I am a worrier, but sometimes will suddenly forget what I was worried about, and then worry that it's something important. lol

    The Craft of Memory

I'm the same way. As far as history, I remember things I understand, like concepts, stories, ideas and events. The dates, I always forget. I have an uncanny memory when it comes to details, mostly because I am a writer by nature and am attuned to such things. For example, I can describe the...

    Vintage Coffee Makers

It works perfectly! I love the sounds it makes and watching the coffee in the clear bubble. It emits the coffee steam (I know, that's flavor loss technically) into the kitchen as it percolates. Pouring coffee from this beauty makes it seem somewhat formal and more of an occasion.

    Dishes Men Like (Food!)

Peas and the 1950's, you can't have one without the other! lol About the pie, well, uh, I er. OK, here's the deal. My no eating after 7:00 p.m. or three hours before bed thing was off all weekend (all three days of it). I sorta went to the store after dinner and kind of bought two small...
