Church is different because there are rules in a church, which are more traditional than those followed by secular society. Frankly, I don't like that people don't wear suits to church anymore. I can't speak for anywhere but my hometown and you'd get a stern talking to for coming into church...

Any car guy worth a darn will tell you the same thing you said. Don't store a battery directly on concrete. I've had it happen with brand new batteries.
It still held on in places with ranches and the like. You're right about it disappearing big time in the late fifties to the seventies. Between Urban Cowboy and the rodeo styling that was big in Country-Music up until the current fads, hats were a big deal.
I think women are overrated (I'm sure my opinion will change once I'm bitten by the lovebug once again). Besides, that gives me more money for cars, not to mention I made a nice whiskey/beer run today!
