Found this vintage tweed 8 Panel cap and even though it’s way too hot to wear it here in Orlando at the moment for $20 I couldn’t pass it up. Looks very old school. The seller claims it’s pre-1950 based on the Union Tag. I take that with a HUGE grain of salt but it certainly looks the part...
Yeah, I doubt it’s beaver as well, but a hare/rabbit mix seems very possible. I was thinking late 50s-60s mostly due to reasonably tall square crown, by the 70s wouldn’t that be uncommon?
Just got this off eBay….probably shouldn’t have but it was too nice looking to pass up. According to the seller it’s a 5in crown and 2 in brim which works great for my proportions and apparently beaver. We’ll see when it gets here. No idea the model though I’m thinking late ‘50s as to the era.
Thanks for the reply! Yeah, I was a tad concerned about those whiter blotches may have been mold or signs of dry rot but the leather actually does still feel like soft leather and there’s no smells or anything so it’s probably just fine. It does need a mild wipe down but it is probably the best...
So I have a fantastic little gray fedora, I suspect from the early ‘60s, with a nice boxy crown and a diamond bash. The whole hat seems in great shape. I do plan on replacing the liner just for the sake of cleanliness, luckily it’s glued in so not too hard to get out. Anyway, I was planning on...
Your cap pic featuring the jaunty tip of the cap brim and swoop to one side reminds me of the Stetson Playboy advertising of old.
Long time since college! I had a newsboy I wore all through high school and college before the poor thing finally wore out.
Just remember, as we all know, the only...
Thank you very much! When the wife says, “hey, you should wear newsboys more” it pays to listen! That cap is honestly becoming my favorite hat. Yeah, more drape to the crown would be nice but it just makes you happy to wear, if that makes sense.
That diamond weave is really elegant, great stuff! I’m thinking about seeing if Mr Cordova could do something with an all weather cotton in the future.
Wondering if any light could be shed…I have a bid in for this Dobbs Golden Coach. The seller didn’t do a great job on photos but based on what I can tell of the interior if it is vintage it’s 1970s at the most but looking at the style it certainly doesn’t seem like a modern hat…it even looks...
So my linen newsboy from Thomas Farthing (the “Gower” model) put up a good show against a Florida shower this afternoon walking back to my car after work. It was soaked, and now, hours later still damp to the touch, but it kept my head pretty dry and doesn’t seem any the worse for wear.
I think that’s how he generally works, but I’m sure if you had a fabric in mind he could probably try to find some.
The drape is a lot but he forms the crowns well so they don’t droop too much.
