Comics writer/editor Len Wein, whose influence on our current entertainment scene (e.g., he created Wolverine and other "new" X-Men) is major:

Every morning with my second cup of coffee, I do a scan of all movies on my cable system for the next 24 hours. It's time-consuming to page through, but I frequently find stuff playing at odd hours or on off-my-radar channels that I'm interested in, and set the DVR.
Even so, I find that I...
Amazon has just announced cancelation of the series, after previously stating that there would be additional seasons. They also recently canceled their Zelda-and-Scott series Z: The Beginning of Everything, which had already been renewed and spent $7 million on preproduction for season 2.
So...
Paul is a really fun film, but I think Kristen Wiig's fundamentalist whose worldview is destroyed by meeting an alien is clearly its MVP.
I watched Keeping Up with the Joneses, an action comedy wherein ordinary suburban couple Zach Galifianakis and Isla Fisher are mystified by the impossibly...
Spotted this earlier today:

That's good news. But I am still having real difficulty working up any enthusiasm for another Indy film at this point.
The newest iteration of The Tick on Amazon.
Eh, it's okay, but so far I like both the 90s animated version and the 2000s live action version (which unfortunately didn't even get a full season) better. The changes to better parody today's superhero films/shows - like "Overkill", who's got...
If you build it, I will vomit.
Boy, I hate that movie. I mean, I hate all movies about team sports... though ones about baseball slightly less than others. And there are definitely some okay scenes and performances in Field of Dreams. But overall, this movie is so confused and manipulative...
Toni Erdmann, a widely praised German film from last year. Essentially a cringe comedy about a tightly-wound executive and the odd relationship with her agent-of-chaos father. It did nothing for me.
The Miracle Woman, a 1931 film starring Barbara Stanwyck and directed by Frank Capra, DVR'd from TCM. (This one's been on my to-see-list since I first read Capra's autobiography circa 1975!)
An uneven film from Capra's pre-star director days, though a pretty major production from Columbia -...
That's a great, great film. One of Taylor's best performances, and Burl Ives, Paul Newman, Judith Evans, Jack Carson, etc. are all splendid. Gotta credit the fine direction by Richard Brooks.
Yeah, it's a sad tragedy, but I'm a sucker for Williams. I've watched this too many times.
You know...
I also went to a lot of cheap movies in my 60s/70s youth. We had a couple of 99-cent theaters in Westchester that showed very late first-run and second-run films. Frequently double features too: I saw the earlier James Bond films and Woody Allen films that way. And I remember going with my...
Florence Foster Jenkins. Not great, but reasonably entertaining. Good cast, good production design of forties NYC (though shot entirely in the UK).
It must have been a challenge for Meryl Streep to sing THAT badly!
Today would have been the hundredth birthday of comic book legend Jack Kirby, whose many (co-)creations and storytelling innovations bestride today's entertainment world like a colossus!

So they don't have to overwork themselves making the tech and sets/costumes look like "the past", and can make connections to movie-established characters like Christopher Pike and Spock's mother Amanda if desired.
Again, it's worth noting that this new series is part of the new timeline which consists of just three feature films, not the 600+ hours of older Trek. So it's not set between Enterprise and the original series, and doesn't have to worry about messing with their continuity. They will just riff...
