You bet I do. I couldn't believe it was the same hat I had sent Art. Now I have something I can wear again since my tastes have changed. But I still have a soft spot for the Elko Buckaroo style.
As for that angry horse, well he didn't much cotton to having anybody on his back. I got...
I was trying to go for that middle ground between the zoot style and the Elko style of hat. I decided on the shape of Art's Uptown which appears to have a great blend of the two. The navy blue was decided on to have something different.
Here is a shot of the Elko style through artist William...
The Resistol 5X After Art...
All I can say is Art has done it again. I am totally blown away. When I opened the box & saw this I was stunned. You hit the nail on the head Art when you stated that the navy blue ribbon & brim binding would be a winner. Thank you so much for a fabulous job. :D You...
Thanks! But I can't take all the credit. Ken put in the initial bash based on photos of my Fieldmaster, I just refined it a bit to match. The brim was a basic demi curl & I had gone to town on that part to get it to match again. A little muscle softened it up rather well. It is now fairly soft...
You'll have to keep a weather eye out for them on ebay. Not all of them will be marked Whippet inside or on the liner. There is one that I have that is a brown Whippet that isn't marked that way (just a plain Royal Stetson) but it bears a remarkable resemblance to my every day Whippet. The only...
Very nice indeed! I'll have to look into that. I've also been on the look out for a Barracuda at a reasonable price in my size. OFAS usually hast them, or reproductions that are cheaply made. I'll just have to be patient.
Cheers!
Dan
It's easier than you think. It just takes a little patience. I had done my Fieldmaster with a dimensional cut, following the instructions given and just taking my time with really sharp scissors. When done cutting I did a little sanding to smooth the edge and that was it. Then all I had to do...
Mine is holding the shape I put into the brim. Don't be afraid to muscle it a bit, it won't hurt the hat. It's funny, I was saying earlier this evening as I was shifting things about with the hat that I would have been afraid to do some of the things I do to hats now a few years ago. This place...
Camptown Metropolitan #14
In the words of Squidward of the Spongebob Squarepants fame, "It has arrived!"
I love it!!:D :D
It is a tad stiff right out of the box, but man once you start playing with it it softens right up.
Ken, if you're reading these, you did a fantastic job...
I guess as long as the felt doesn't have any tears or drastic holes in it, it may have a possibility of becoming a Lazarus hat. My whippet was in pretty shabby shape (not to this extent) but was able to be reblocked. There is some hope in it. Then it might be a good Open Road style.
Cheers...
Why thank you JT, that is most appreciated. Art had a lot to do with it.
IndyCop: No, not yet.:( Hopefully today or tomorrow. Knowing it's on it's way is encouraging and leaving me anxious at the same time. Once I get it I will post pics, to be sure.
Cheers!
Dan
Thanks for the kind comments on the Stetson. Art had reblocked it for me and added the ribbon. Then I put the Remington bash in. I still think I may monkey with the brim a little more for effect.
Fatwoul: It wasn't too expensive. I had that hat reshaped and another Knox worked on so it was...
These are some great looking conversions gentlemen! I just got word today that Art is done with my Resistol conversion. I have a black Resistol western I used to wear back in my rodeo days and had Art reshape it similar to his Uptown hat. Adding a navy blue ribbon and brim binding. I can't wait...
