They are used quite often in kids western hats, so as they grow they fit an ever expanding head. They are sewn in a funnel shape(like a minnow trap).- carouselvic

Looks like a piece of backer rod. Backer rod is used in cracks or joints before being caulked. Any good lumber yard should have it.- carouselvic

Can you show a Stetson 3X that says Clear. My vision is poor. To my knowledge Stetson never made a 3X clear, at least when these hats were made. Thanks- carouselvic
