Welcome to FL Spiney! Hope this is a source of good and occasionally useful information for you, and not just an opprotunity to drain your wallet in needess "excessive" jackets. That does happen here too!
There are many, many choices out there and one thing I suggest is to pick up a jacket...
Anywhere from 4.5 - 9 lbs would be a basic range. However these days, most HB's are in the 4.5 - 6.5 lb range. I would also reccommend Vicenza Horsehide, or "Soft Midweight Cowhide" if weight is a concern.
A rarely seen "Route 66" Aero in brown, grainy horsehide. Blue Label. Nice jacket with some odd features (like the upper chest pocket on a sharp angle) and rather deep taper to the short body of this jacket...
On the other hand there is the FL Mulholland style jacket at similar price range with 3-4 months waiting time. I know that's two totally different styles and topics (vintage vs new) and I know the answers of all of you already ;) Perhaps the easiest way would be to buy neither of them and to...
For insight into this, ask an actual, working cowboy why he never takes off his boots, even sometimes while he sleeps.
I'm a "hybrid" in this area. I grew up on a farm and wore boots a lot, but also wore tennis shoes and correct running shoes given the curcumstances. That is how I still am -...
Danny - I have Wesco Mr Lou's right now (12D), along with a pair of 12D John Lofgren's. The Lofgren's run wide, so I have to double-sock them to fit. The Mr Lou's run a bit narrow, and actually fit perfect as is. That's where the simularities end. They look but do not feel or walk similar to...
Robbie - This is a very nice package here that does appear to all be original and well kept. The grain on the jacket is awesome! It would be a great lifer jacket. That said - if you have any reservations on anything with it - do not go for it. This is a lot of money, and it's been for sale...
Starting bid of $99 is attractive - but it does need a zipper, has 23.5" sleeves and a 21" pit to pit, kind of tight for a "42." Seems more like a 40. But great hide & patina. His "Buy it now" is rather high at $600.
Only tried on in the house on Carpet - Nick's Roberts Boots in Size 11D. Just a slight bit too short for me. Vibram soles. Stitchdown construction. Medium arch support. Leather laces. Cordovan Heavy Leather. Double Row Stitching. Half the cost of a new pair with no waiting. Need a...
Thanks for the heads up. I have a jacket incoming with 27.5" sleeves and is a center-zip style, with zip-sleeves. Right up this alley. It's on my plan to eventually visit Langlitz in person as well!
Thanks for the positive feedback guys, however as they say, something else came up that I like more... :)
Now on ebay too if you prefer that route - but get a better deal here:

Then I got home and an old friend was waiting for me --
...
Up to this point, all looks to be well. Then I raised my arms -- silly me...
And here's my basic reaction -- same as it was three years back...
There you have it -- quite the Saturday around here.
