hey everyone.
I've seen this brand pop up in a few random threads. Great looking photos, very stylish fits. What am I missing? Are they good for the money or just flat out good?
I might order something to test out, but that D1 Mechanics jacket keeps catching my eye at sub $400. That's...
I'm starting to feel like, not only am I not alone in this (which makes me happy), but I got some serious catching up to do (which makes me worried :).
Bank account is running scared and doesn't even have a chance the deeper I start diving into these threads. Some beautiful hats.
Got a package from hatsdirect yesterday. A couple of Fed 4s which I think is the style I've always been looking for. But I always wanted a Snowy River. Felt kind...
yes, it's the waxy cowhide. Really soft and "gooey". Only worn it like 5 times with Covid hitting and summer kicking in. I've got the 118 also which is the naked cowhide. similar cuts, but totally different feel. and the 519 has the star.
Hey everyone. Been lurking.
Woke up this morning to like 60 degree temps. Ran to the closet to get my first outdoor leather jacket fix. Up until now, been wearing them around the house to get some breaking in. Wife, kids, dogs and cats think I'm nuts wearing a zipped up Schott and boxer...
beautiful hats, everyone.
Got my Akubra fix yesterday in the mail. One of the Fed 4s. Just love the dimensions on this thing. Think I finally figured out the shape, size, etc. that I like the most. Any other recommendations for Fed 4 style hats? Still playing with some dry creasing. And...
thanks. we got the same hats : ) I love the Sydney. I was hoping the Stylemaster acorn was going to be substantially lighter, but it's very close to the Regency (I think that's it of the Sydney). Luckily the hats "feel" different. On the Sydney I've got a wide center crease, somewhat tight...
sounds like Wade and I are going to have a showdown. 10 paces, choose your weapon.... :D
From what I gathered poking around last night, seems like on the Sheene I'd be a 42? Is that right.
On the Board Racer, the same or 44?
And on the B-6, I'm assuming on that style jacket, you're looking for...
I got the acorn a month back. It never really felt right. I had to raise the crown because it was sitting on my head. Then I gave it more of pinch, which didn't work. Then I messed with the brim some because there was a little too much flange to brim ratio for my taste. Anyway, being...
oh boy. For someone who lives in Los Angeles, I have way too many jackets already. But it's my downfall. I'm literally wearing a Schott James right now in bed with boxer shorts to start breaking it in because I got it mid summer on crazy sale and want it ready.
I'll hit you up soon with some...
ah brother, this forum got me spending money already and I didn't even know it went beyond hats. My first love is leather jackets, so I'm in trouble now. Ain't going to lie, I've got a 50th Bday coming up in about 14 months and I"m eyeing a couple jackets. That B-6 Redskin and one of the...
yeah, you get about 7 months, maybe 8 to wear a jacket in LA because of the warm weather. It's been 90 plus where I live since mid May. I guess at night you can sneak in a light jacket here and there, but no way you wearing a 100 series Schott unless you looking to sweat out some pounds LOL
All mine are either 42 or Large. I like them a little more slim fitting. I'm 6 foot, 185 lbs. I actually went medium on one of the cuts and it's just a tad bit tight in the chest, but everything else is perfect. But everyone of their jackets fits me different. Sleeve length, sleeve girth...
thanks for the info. I'm more of 7 1/4, like 57.75 cm. I don't how vintage hats hold up to sizing over the years. I'm guessing lots of variable on how the hat was stored, treated, climate, etc. but I'm guessing for the most part they're shrinking to some degree.
Great deal. I've got one I bought for $550 I think on one of the Covid sales. If it were my size, I'd buy it for shits and giggles LOL. I will say, now owning like 5 Schotts, you do have to wear them at least like 20 times to start getting a sense of how they'll fit. Especially the 100...
Still playing around with the crown and brim, but this Akubra Sydney (Regency Fawn) is quickly becoming one of my go to hats. Thinking about picking up the grey version as well which is on sale right now. At $115, I haven't yet come across a better value to price piece.
thanks, Eric. Yeah, I figure a new Stetson is about $200 and if they don't make them like they used to  I guess I'll watch a few of these and see what they end up going for to get a better sense. But great tip about looking up previous sales. And following other posts about Gannon...
Really digging that Playboy. On Ebay they have one listed in my size for $250 + $25 shipping. Seems to be the exact model (light blueish grey) and in good shape. Is that a good price for something like this? Being new to hats much less totally ignorant to vintage, I have no idea. What's the...
thanks, guys. yeah now that I've bought a handful of hats, I'm seeing the subtle or not so subtle differences. I mean brim size, flat vs. snap, etc. are pretty straight forward. But I'm starting to see the taper or the squareness more in the crown, besides just the height. I guess I need...
what's the trick to creasing the hat so the dimples or "dents" still appear well defined? Maybe I should explain better. When creasing my hats or even precreased hats, I put them on, my head kind of fills up the hat. I guess I do have more of an oval head, so probably need to buy higher...
