Hm, Ebay looks like its my best bet for Cuffs and waist, I prefer the real deal for that price.
As for a zipper, I had a GREAT match for one of my *Cheapro* (trademark By dumspter Diver :P) bomber jackets using the zipper from a Canadian Issue Parka from the 70s.
had a GREAT Brass Talon...
Yikes! My budget wont allow for it unfortunately.
I will most likely have to Find cuffs-waist from another Repro, either that, or Ebay will probly be the same price, for NOS re-treads of military stock.
Save money by Doing my own Repair jobs always.
I could try a vintage leather...
Im Just wondering if anyone could suggest where to Look for Cuffs and a waistband. this is a common problem I come Across hunting old G-1s, Seems the military Cut a lot of the Cuffs off when the Jackets were Taken out of Circulation, and put into Surplus lots. (not sure why this was a practice)...
The hood on mine Looks Real nice when you fold it inside out, the Fleece of the Jacket is dark brown, but the hood is a nice golden fleece, gives a nice two-tone look, no other jacket in my oppinion is quite as unique. Im not sure about the desighn of the hood, As far as I presume, most Crew...
Felt the Urge to ask here, if anyone saw the Movie Promethius, and noticed the scene where some of the ships Crew were sporting The RAF pattern Escape boots!!!
this thread deserves a Bump*
Excellent Excellent work, Pat yourself on the back for a phenominal Resto Job! wow! Bravo!
If only these Jackets could talk!
The jacket Appeared Almost Two shades too dark in some lighting aspect of the film, because of the Saturation effect of the colour old Film. Of course it could depend on the Jacket too, some WW2 Goatskin G-1 type Jackets I have appear to have the Hue of Dark chocolate, could appear almost black...
Haha, no one Mentioned Neats foot oil.
that is where my money goes. That stuff is what I Exlusively Advocate for applying to my WW2 Antique Leather.
It doesnt take much to work in, and It soaks in deep. Brought my Jackets back better than Mink oil times a BUNCH.
I swear by that stuff.
you can just leave them be dude, Ive seen worse.
The time Worn look is the whole Character of your jacket.
guys were fixing Engines in those things man, were talking about GRubby sad sack Lookin guys!
Anyone know who won this B-3, It was locacted in Toronto.
It ended Wednesday night around 8PM. Thought I would bid because I could have done a local pick up.
it was at about $150, still with 12 hours to go, It went up to 790!
It was in well worn Condition too! I am thinking it sold...
Would like to see someones before and after photos.
I have a Cooper A-2 that Just wont Lay right in the gut region.
It got in with some moldy clothes and is musty anyway..Guess It will take a shower with me, and then I will try the Dryer method to maybe see what happens.:D
I will wear anything, sheep, goat, horse, cow, in any condition; rain or shine.
wear and tear, weather and leather.
Give me sheepskin though personally, Im all about it.
play rock paper scissors between Cow, Goat and Sheepskin, I would be happier with all three selections personally...
Yeah, but the oil in the solution Is what gives it that Darker look, when the oil Dries out the jacket may get back to its original hue, it could take a long period of time, I guess thats how I can tell its time for another Treatment to the leather on some of the more worn jackets, when I see...
actually, If the Waistband+cuffs+Liner are not Original to the jacket It would be obligated to find authentic Replacement. otherwise, In my oppinion your jacket has better character a little Rough around the edges!!!!!!
you will see on occaison a Retro 70s-80s ad for Spitfire type Triumph looking sportscars, I think they would put a man and an Irvin Jacket together on the same page to give you the impression that Bombing around in one of those topless roadsters was not unlike the thrill of taking an old...
