Rebashing my new Stetson to something less dressy...

Definitely use a tea kettle if at all possible. Not sure how to advise you on the crease. I prefer symmetrical creases so I would be the wrong person to advise you on choosing a crease. I would just play with it and see which crease looks best on you. Let me know if you ever get tired of it...

    The Open Road Guild

I agree with gtdean. Go with a Premiere Stratoliner and shape it however you like it. I have a modern OR that I never wear.

Came across this matchbook that I think is pretty cool. However, the guy looks like he has a black eye!

    Need help identifying this Stetson...

I think you got a great deal on a rare hat. The size of the hat makes a big difference as to the value.

    Need help identifying this Stetson...

Looks more like an Open Road. Looks to be from somewhere around the mid 1950s. Very nice find!

    The Other Open Roads.....

Was looking around on eBay and came across this Pilgrim hat with the same checkerboard size tag as my "Repell-X" hat. I always thought Lee manufactured Pilgrim hats but judging by the size tag, would you guys say Adam manufactured this hat? Very strange. Pilgrim Repell-X

    Post New Hats Here!

Very interesting, Alan. Part of the fun of collecting hats for me is learning about the history of the stores that sold them.

Very nice, Michael! Funny, I've got a Borsalino Alessandria from that exact same store in Detroit. They must have been a big Borsalino dealer back in the day.

    NEW STETSON 2015 Dress catalog

I hear you, but I would think the Stratoliner name would be a more attractive product from a marketing standpoint. Hmm.

What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

Harv, the felt on the OR is not even close to being as stiff as the modern ones, but a little more stiff than earlier ORs. The felt is very dense and nice quality, and the brim is stiffer than the crown, which wears nicely.
