Here's an interesting website for anyone who's into vintage stuff. It's a costume rental place. The link should take you to the "overcoat" listings, but if not, just type it into the search bar. It's a mixed bag of coats but fun to flip through, esp if you're looking for ideas...
Re gold/silver buttons on coats (and blazers)... I've run into this all the time on other clothing forums. People say "I want a blazer" and then insist on removing the shiny metal buttons and replacing them with something matte or bland horn buttons, presumably because of some lack of confidence...
Yeah, you're probably right. I've seen vintage Burberry and Aquascutum coats in old movies from the 1960s and the "house check/lining" which each uses were never in evidence, the vintage coats seems to have some bland patterns like the one in that photo. So I guess the association of B and Aq...
I'm surprised that CWU jacket is so short, I've found that both the military and the civilian (Alpha, etc) versions usually have a 26" back, at least on a size Large, much longer than nylon jackets of the same size.

I don't think long, traditional trench coats are coming back for me, it's going to be short/slim for the foreseeable future. I guess it makes the old ones stand out better.
Temps are hovering around freezing today and predicted to go up to 50F in a couple days. I guess the cold snap is over for a week or so. I ain't complaining !
British/Empire infantry officers rode horses at the beginning of WW1, as did all ranks in the artillery and cavalry, and so riding breeches etc lingered throughout the war after horses disappeared from the battlefield (except among artillery units who still pulled their weapons around using...
It has the same shortcoming in the great outdoors since in many parts of the world tracks and trails are just wide enough for a Land Rover or Land Cruiser but not a Humvee!
^ That old Willis & Geiger coat looks great, thanks for posting.
For people who live in warm areas who are buying their first parka, I recommend hunting around for one which is long and comes close to your knees and fully covers your thighs. It won't look very hip or fashionable, and it won't...
