I am assuming that it is indeed the straight sided block which produces the square boxy shape... and I do get what you mean about the shoulder being reduced (not so square shaped, right). There must be then multiple "style" straight...
Crown Height and Block...
I love the 30's high crown square/boxy style hat. I'm 5'8" 175lbs and my widest brim is 2 3/8, which as mentioned is a surprising jump from my 2 1/4 brims. This thread raises some interesting points about the relationship of the "block" used together with the crown...
Andy Devine had a great Sat AM show that included a short movie adventure (maybe cowboys) Billie Gilbert's hilarious sneezing and that "professor character" with the funny accent who always got smashed with an egg or something and of course Midnite the Cat... Niiiiice...
The cars a re great and the hats aren't bad either... BUT...way too much pretty and stylized gloss... And the COMMERCIALS make me nuts... don't think I'll even watch part two... I already know how it ends...:D

I would tend to agree that there was way too much to tie up in such a short episode, however it really did cover everyone...

I loved Jimmy Stewart's clothes and particularly his hat... all those shots of him driving in the car with that coppery ribbon on that wonderfully swooped fedora... and not to mention Kim Novak...
