Remember The lesson of Lestat de Lioncourt: Vampires who do not keep up with changes in human society will slowly die. ;)

    Your Most Disturbing Realizations

If I subtract my age from my birth year, it's 1911, which seems like an unimaginably long time ago.

Anyone with a corduroy lined jacket?

I've just been given a full length leather double breasted coat with cord lining. It's a little big, so it should go well over a sweater once the temps dip into the low 20s.

    The ultimate bad-guys of cinema-history?

YES. Also Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lector and Javier Bardem in No Country for Old Men. But Waltz was evil because he was so charming about it. A chilling smile, courtly manners, just before he puts a bullet in your head. It's his unique gift as an actor. The perfect guy to play a Nazi.

    Gramophones, Phonographs, Victrolas....

The film Crimson Peak shows off some nifty Edison and Columbia machines. The film is also very well done.

    When did the penny drop?

This is what I get for trusting that an innocuous thread title indicates there's no trouble inside. This should have been closed up long ago, my apologies for missing it.

    Vintage Appliances

Anyone know what this is? Appears to be an electric water kettle. This is from the Baz Luhrmann Gatsby. I'd also like to identify the toaster, canisters and whatever that silver thing is to the right. Is this legitimately 1920s?

Oh, How Abercrombie has Changed Since Hemingway Shopped There...

I've shown this off before. My A&F lantern case. 1920s, I'd guess. The article is wonderful and worth the read.

    The Nazi Gold Train

That will be a battle-- dealing with claims. There must be a fair amount of such stuff still buried. The story goes that remaining SS Totenkopf Honor rings were fired via shell into a mountain someplace to ditch them before the allies got there.

How the Synchromesh Transmission works - Chevrolet

I love mechanical stuff. Tearing things apart and fixing them. Cars, Phonographs, radios, telephones, clocks, whatever.

I've had these apart but this is a really great, simple explanation of how a gearbox works. https://youtu.be/aFvj6RQOLtM
