WWII/old-fashioned military slang for passing gas.

It's still a source of mirth. Of course, there is no longer the risk of getting a loud and dramatic 'bollocking' from a man in authority: a schoolmaster, games master or Corps instructor. This added a certain frisson to farting at school - especially as the bollockings were half-hearted as...

Probably a Navy roll neck - as I already have such a large collection of the crew necks!

    School and college sports

I recall that he often wore two military Woolly Pullies (aka commando sweaters), Army and Navy, one on top of the other. During periods of standing around listening to him talk (or rather shout), we could also wear our Woolly Pullies from Corps over our Rugger shirts. My interest in that type...

    School and college sports

One other thing I learned from Rugger practice in particular was tolerance of cold. ‘This is freezing your bollocks off, I know’, one of our coaches would say to us (with a measure of enjoyment) when we were standing around listening to him. He was not wrong!

I have just received a 15% discount offer from Outdoor Knitwear which I fully intend to use to add to my collection of military sweaters.

    School and college sports

I like the statement about sport not making but revealing character. It makes a lot of sense. However I can also say that I have realised as an adult man how much of my character was shaped by participating in sport, especially as there was so much emphasis on it at my boarding school. This...

I hope that my farts have not contributed too much to climate change.

    Military 'woolly pully' sweaters

The recent grey, intermittently wet days with cool nights have been ideal for the Royal Navy Woolly Pully, which I have worn every day for the past 10 days or so.

    Autumnal Thoughts........

Exactly the same here. It has been possible to wear a sweater first thing in the morning and in the evenings too. Soon all day. And the light is softer, gentler, ore beautiful now. Far from sighing, I feel liberated from the inferno of summer.

WWII/old-fashioned military slang for passing gas.

'Fire a stink torpedo' is another euphemism I heard recently.

... And it was my turn to break out an Olive drab Woolly Pully this morning, worn with a Barbour jacket and a tweed cap.

Brilliant. I was able to wear a black WP yesterday evening and this morning - so autumn (or Fall as you call it) is coming. ...

    Military 'woolly pully' sweaters

I detest summer and all its works. ... When we get to September, I feel freer and lighter. I become outgoing again and more involved with friends, interests, hobbies. It is as if a weight has been lifted. I love the other three seasons of the year - it's just summer I can't 'get along with'...

The 'real deal' has to be Outdoor Knitwear. www.outdoorknitwear.com I speak as a very satisfied customer. They do, I know, ship their Woolly Pullies quickly to the US.

    Democracy

I have made a number of visits to the US over the years and my impression, as a European visitor, is that American society is in essence matriarchal and that the culture is dominated by white women, to such an extent that it is barely possible to escape their influence.

    Nativer American belts

As a British man, I have always greatly admired Native American culture and I would be interested in acquiring a genuine Native American belt which wasn't tourist kitsch and was appropriate in design/patterns/colours/stones and metals for a 50 year old male. Can any of you point me towards...
