Paul Sorvino was great!
Alas, another favorite actor: David Warner.

I've loved this guy ever since his early appearances in Tom Jones and Morgan: A Suitable Case for Treatment. While primarily known for playing villains - and...
Last Night in Soho (2021), a thriller directed by Edgar Wright starring Anya-Taylor Joy, Tomasin McKenzie, Matt Smith, and in supporting roles, sixties Brit icons Rita Tushingham, Terence Stamp, and (in her final performance) the great Diana Rigg.
Let me start by saying that I'm not part of the...
Dude, consider that this "subversive commentary on the British class system" was originally a play by George Bernard Shaw that opened in 1914... when it was much more subversive!
Last night's flick was Colossal (2016), a bizarre hybrid about dysfunctional people... and giant monsters stomping...
I saw Our Daily Bread in a film class a LONG time ago - 1973. I agree it's mainly a historical curiosity these days, a reminder that the Soviet Experiment sounded vaguely appealing to many in the depths of the Depression.
I didn't realize until looking it up just now that it's a sort-of sequel...
Silence is a very good, deadly serious film. It's my favorite movie directed by Marty in YEARS, a nice change from his more familiar, more flamboyant work. Like all his films, it's still about a bunch of dickish men fighting for control of their lives, but its somber priests make a nice change...
Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I started sweating in it yesterday. Today's supposed to be hotter. If it doesn't shrink enough on its own after a while, I'll consider trying that method.
I was also quite disappointed with Nightmare Alley. I think del Toro is an outstanding, visionary director and I've liked/loved many of his earlier films. But this one, despite a solid cast and gorgeous production design, really did nothing for me.
And I gotta say: part of it is Bradley...
Yesterday I got my Sunbody Open Road - in their better straw, with a 3" brim. It's VERY nice for the price, but I really hope the sweatband shrinks nearly a full size as promised - it's currently a little big even with sizing foam in place. Obviously, I have to get out and sweat in it!
Here...
Their stuff is good for the price, but come on, we need larger sizes!
I got one of their largest available size B-15C MOD jackets last year... and while I actually could zip it, it pinched badly under the arms and there was zero layering room. I ultimately passed it along to my slightly...
I'm enjoying The Boys too!
I watched the first half of the six-ep season of The Time Traveler's Wife on HBO. I had loved the original novel, and I thought the 2009 film adaptation with Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams did a pretty good job on an especially difficult book to dramatize. So now...
I represent a subset of the longtime jacket fans here: I do not buy used jackets at all, much less buy and sell them frequently. I have not spent thousands searching for a grail jacket. I do not collect jackets just to hang them in the closet as historical objects. I only buy new jackets, and...
Considering my lifelong interest in 20s/30s music, I came to her late myself. It was through the clever use of her recordings in Sita Sings the Blues, a fascinating animated film from around a decade ago. You can stream it free, and I definitely recommend it.

Coincidentally, I've got a Sunbody hat on order - Open Road style with a 3" brim in their better straw. It's been two weeks today, so it shouldn't be much longer... I'm definitely looking forward to checking it out!
Long ago I had a Stetson Open Road Panama I wore for 20 years - picture from...
I've recently been watching a bunch of current series:
The First Lady on Showtime. This first season cuts between the experiences of Eleanor Roosevelt (Gillian Anderson), Betty Ford (Michelle Pfeiffer) and Michelle Obama (Viola Davis). Future seasons will be about different first ladies...
I can't read it in your pic, but its model name appears to be embossed on the front of the sweatband like most Akubras.
The dimensions look like a Squatter...
Old, the latest film from M. Night Shama-lama-dingdong.
It's one of his better recent efforts, but it has all the familiar weaknesses of his work... including his insistence on casting himself even though he can't act. But it's got a solid Twilight Zone plot setup with a palpable sense of...
Brilliant SF film model designer Colin Cantwell, who was instrumental in creating Star Wars' X-Wing and TIE Fighters, etc.

This appears to be a real boater (not one of those soft-straw fake boaters):

I haven't handled one myself, but I'm sure others here can chime in on whether it's legit.
I finally watched this last year and mostly agree with you. It's interesting, but uneven, and a bit of a creaky antique even for the year it was made. That this awkward flick won Best Picture is representative of the deep, persistent anglophilia of thirties Hollywood.
