    Pocket Knife

I have a small Gerber, similar to that one, that I carry almost every day. It's one of the best little pocket knives I've ever had. It's extremely light, good strong blade that stays sharp, and I can open and close with one hand. I've been carrying it about 20 years now...love it.

    Excessive posting? ... Interesting.....

The best movie Tom Cruise ever did was Risky Business. It's been all downhill since then. It's kind of like listening to U2. They peaked in 1984, and it's been a sad, mostly unlistenable cliff dive since then.

    Excessive posting? ... Interesting.....

Easily the best movie ever about a NASCAR driver who wears a chicken suit. I can't believe it didn't win an Academy Award.

The End of the Collector Mindset

If you haven't used it, worn it, or eaten it in the last year, out it should go! That's my motto. I wish I could get Mrs. Hawk to agree. She has clothes from high school (more than 35 years ago) that she simply cannot let go of. I remind her..."Honey, 1) you haven't been able to wear them in...

    Chores That You Really Hate(d)

Growing up in Florida, I never had to shovel snow or rake leaves (as we say down South, you don't have to shovel sunshine). My dad would never let me cut the grass, for fear I'd scalp his precious patch of St. Augustine. We had concrete floors, so no vacuuming was required. So we had to wash...

So trivial, yet it really ticks you off.

Running laps is a time honored disciplinary tactic. It’s usually just a way to get kids occupied and out of the coach’snhair for a bit.

For the record, I attended only secular, public schools too. This wasn’t nuns, it was regular public school teachers. You got paddled if you forgot our homework. I disagree with our implication that the teachers weren’t interested in teaching kids though.

So trivial, yet it really ticks you off.

Corporal punishment was alive and well all the way up through my high school years in the 80s. I got a few myself. Even as a senior in high school, if you got out of line in class, the teacher took you out into the hallway and “whack, whack, whack”. The whole class could hear it. You were...

What I hate more is that it’s nearly impossible to find a ripe one. Only green ones are found at the supermarket. If you want to eat a banana, you’d better plan 7-10 days ahead.

If we’re going with dark wood and bright colors, this is Moor (get it...) my style.

    BATTER UP!

Jackie Mitchell was her name. There is much debate about the legitimacy of the feat, with most contemporary accounts and modern historians agreeing that it was staged. Likewise, there is no evidence of Landis banning her, or ever even being aware of her existence. But as the saying...

    Tiffany's new ad campaign

I guess they think the homeless waif in a hoodie is just as timeless and classic. That's awful for such a high end brand.

Products That Have Gotten Better Over Time

Electronics and automobiles are the obvious ones. They are orders of magnitude better in quality, reliability, and affordability today than in the Era. Many things have options that are just as good in quality, but come at a higher price than standard stuff because...well, we've sort of...

    The 80s, myth and reality?

MTV was the first channel dedicated solely to music videos, but there were other programs showing them, several years earlier. Video Concert Hall and Night Flight were two U.S. programs. The first music video broadcast on MTV, Video Killed The Radio Star, was made several years before MTV...

"Tires on the ground" is the standard for pretty much any safe-driving course nowadays.

We got Charles Chips shipped all the way down to Florida. And being gone for a few days, I'm getting caught up reading about Hendrix, potato chips and hot law professors. This thread just zooms by.

Why does Samuel Adams Boston Lager taste so much better than many other Lagers?

I agree about the over hoppy beers that are all the rage. It seems to be a contest of who make the most bitter beer. Personally, if there's a German beer to be had, I'll take that everyday and twice and Sundays.

I've never had a Sam Adams I liked, but the Boston Lager is the most overrated.

Why does Samuel Adams Boston Lager taste so much better than many other Lagers?

I guess it's better than Budweiser, if that's your other choice. I would have thought there were a lot more beer choices in the UK. Local brews are typically best. Here in Houston, there is Karbach (their Love Street is my favorite at the moment), Southern Star, 8th Wonder, St. Arnold's...to...
