Congrats on your new Irvin, Sloan. It sure looks like AERO's got the hang of it now. Great fleece too!!!
Just in time for the fall and winter, which just might be just as nice for Irvins as ours over here. Wear the hell out of it and get rid of the shine and you'll be one lucky fellow.
Edward, I agree it could be very interesting to see a review on the top repro jackets. But there is only one man - in my opinion - who can do this. And only one way, he ca do it. I'll be happy to bring my Aces High Irvin repro to London next time and let Andrew have a thorough look at it.
If...
Please allow me to chip in here.
When you have a great interest in the historic perspective of the Irvin (as I do) and find a supplier with the same burning interest, it's quite easy "to chuck out £700 for a jacket - and it's not to "somebody", Sloan1874.
Jon at Aces High keeps a very close...
As promised some closeups of the new "Lightning" zipper.
Jon - Aces High - has not only done a terrific job by recreating this authentic prewar zipper - but also by installing it in my beloved Irvin.
I also include a couple of pics so you gentlemen can follow the progress of creases and look...
I am afraid, I can not really comment on that. I have never tried on a ELC Irvin. So it might be unfair to ELC.
Only seen and touched them in their tent at at Flying Legends (Duxford).
My honest guess is that Aces High are made of softer material than the ELC of today. And being that, the Aces...
I do look in now and again, Smithy. But since the last scrap, I don't contribute much. Only now and again when it comes to Irvin jackets. Besides that, I keep mum.
In just a few days I'll have my Aces High Irvin back from Jon. He's made some minor corrections on the collar and installed a brand new repro Lightning Zipper with Art Deco stopper box. Very pre-war period like. Will post some pics, when I get it. If you gents have any interest, that is...
Please allow me to chip in, Polocoat. I have owned a WPG Irvin before - from the plastic area period. I have also owned a AERO Irvin. So I know about bulky jackets. The good thing about the WPG was it's flexibility. And the price. The bad thing was the rest: It's total lack of finish quality...
Not here so very often any more, so I just happened to see this new Aero Mid War Irvin. I must admit they've come a long way.
Although not a multi-panel fan myself.
I think it's a nice touch with the slightly other color on the collar. After all, that's how they must have turned out back...
I can only quote my father, who fought the nazis in the danish resistance:
"It was not the single german soldier I fought. But I hated everything the uniform symbolized. So I fought them."
My father is dead now - but I still can not see any reason for people strutting around in these uniforms...
When I am wearing my Irvin, the standard remark is always something like: "Hey, where did you park the Spitfire?" (At least they know)
And my standard answer is: "It's a Hurricane, but I don't recon you know the difference!"
Hi Flashy - I completely agree with Smithy. I've been down the exact same route as you are on now. My first was a ALC. Then I got the WPG - if only for a very short time. Then I went for the AERO (and soaked it) - now I have the best repro, money can buy (IMO): One of Jon's Aces High Irvins...

And after:
Hello Flashy! - just saw your post. I soaked my brand new AERO Irvin twice and water (Bathtub) and tumbled it lightly (very low temperature) afterwards.
Let it dry hanging outside - inside out - in the wind and sun for as long as possible each time.
The result...
