The L.A. Athletic Club? My great-uncle Joe was a member, one of the last Life Members. The club was a little miffed at him because he lived clear into his 90's and never paid a dime in membership after he bought the Life Time. That must have been back in the late '40's or early 50's at the...
My go-to source for piths is tagsafari.com, a company based in Zimbabwe that makes safari clothing for people who are really headed out on safari. The one on my head came from there. It's the Victorian 'cavalry' model and, yes, I wore it to Mozambique for buffalo, bushpig and bushbuck. Great...
I certainly would. Annual dry cleaning won't damage the cloth unduly and will get rid of the tobacco smell/stain. The modest cost in repairing the pocket will be more than repaid in the coming years of pleasurable wearing. Good eye, sir.
They do, indeed. We will be in Belgium in April on a cruise boat leaving from Amsterdam to see the tulip beds and the Floriad and ending in Antwerp. Any interesting restaurants or pubs along the river we should know about?
That's about the approach I'll be using in April. The Akubra Stylemaster will go on my head while a tweed driving cap and a wool felt walkabout will get packed surrounded by sox, etc. I expect it to be quite brisk in Holland and Belgium at that time of year and want to be properly prepared.
Jeff, at your age the currently fashionable stingy brims are fine. Don't be in any hurry to upgrade your wardrobe with anything expensive. Ebay, thrift shops and relatives exist for the purpose of improving your attire without busting the budget. For my nephews last birthday, I upgraded his...

I heartily agree. RL manages to put out seriously classic styles where so many others are just bizarre...
Very nice! I'm not sure that a hat of that semi-formality would be of much use to me but it certainly is attractive. Eventually I'll get a homburg to wear on Easter Sunday with my stroller but not this year. A lord's hat? Probably not.
The last two days it's gotten up into the 80's, well past the felt hat mark. So today I'm wearing my Panama Bob discount special. Not a bad lid for $15!
Here in SoCal the May/September dates for changing hats is nonsense so it's a thermometer thing. If the high for the day is over 74F it's a panama day. Under that I wear felt. And if it's a panama day, it's a polo/golf shirt under a flyweight linen or cotton jacket. No ties above 74F!
Two of us had fedoras on at choir rehearsal this morning and the organist loved it. I told him about Akubra so maybe in a few weeks there will be three. Everyone who sees my new Stylemaster compliments me on it. I may have to get another in some other color. But Moonstone sure goes well with...
I placed it back in early January but the color/style was out of stock. It has been shipped so I'm just waiting for UPS or whatever to pony up. I expect it tomorrow or Monday. If it doesn't arrive by Tues, I'm to email them.
I'm just impatient, that's all. I want to wear it to church along...
No it isn't but black and white spectators, as already suggested, would be dashing. Match the socks to the suit or possibly a silver grey. Then you could go with with a silver grey pocket square and a dark blue grenadine tie, silver grey fedora. Oooo, it gives me shivers just thinking about it.
