Carol -- a New Film Set in the early 50s

It has certainly been shut out of awards. I don't get why it was passed over by the Oscars for Best Director. At the opposite end of the scale, I saw The Revenant. It was a great movie, but a little long. About froze to death just watching all that crawling in snow.

This is a bit... violent, and not really a fit for us.

GMO's - Scientific and Economic 'realities'???

Yes, as I understand it the iffy looking guys behind the counter weren't washing their hands.

GMO's - Scientific and Economic 'realities'???

I don't know what to think. Feeding 400 million mouths (in the US alone) requires some kind of compromise for safe food (see: Chipotle and their not-so-cool-after all organic stuff). But mainly what Lizzie said.

DEATHS ; Notable Passings; The Thread to Pay Last Respects

Very saddened to hear of Alan Rickman's passing. Best line deliveries on screen. "What evidence do you have.... Potter?" "Nothing. I just knew." "Oh. You just..................................... ...........knew."

Carol -- a New Film Set in the early 50s

Saw it today, at the only theatre in Ohio where it's being shown. A one and a half hour drive in a downpour and well worth it. Very well directed and excellent performances. Every shot was wonderful. It would be hard to recommend this movie highly enough. Even guys who resist "chick flicks"...

    Dinner for eight.

Surely! It's a Jeff Smith (Frugal Gourmet) recipe, from his holiday cookbook. http://www.savorsa.com/2009/12/creamed-onions-a-silky-side-dish/ I make them every Christmas Day for dinner.

Vintage Photos from Cunard at The Holidays.

I'm sure it would have been fantastic, having had a small taste of being aboard the QM with a group of good friends.

Gifted to me: Heavy Wool (re)Lined Leather Coat

It's the lapels that throw me. I think it's similar to this one, which is a jacket I'd been searching for. I'm glad she offered it to me or it would have gone to Goodwill. The pockets are lined with wide corduroy, like a peacoat. It also has ribbed storm cuffs.

Gifted to me: Heavy Wool (re)Lined Leather Coat

This came my way recently. I knew the original owner, who passed away a couple of years ago. His widow told me he had had it a long time. I went through it for some kind of label but there is nothing, anywhere. It is lined in a plain olive blanket wool and I'm sure this is a replaced lining...

WWII/old-fashioned military slang for passing gas.

Trying to think of what my dad (WWII vet) used to say. He was a comical guy. Mostly I remember him blaming the dog. "Toot?"
