That's good to know, @MrProper and @58panheadfan.
I wore the jacket a couple of times in a drizzle and wiped it dry with a terry cloth at home. No problem. However I thought proper rain, when the leather soaks up the water, wouldn’t be good for the Vicenza.
When I bought the jacket, Bolt only had a few samples, therefore I took the train to Galashiels. At the factory, I could try on different jackets and got good advice about all the details from Denny, the founder’s son. To be honest, I had to go to Edinburgh anyway, so it was just a small detour...
When I bought my Aero BR Jacket, I could choose between Vicenza and heavy FQHH CXL. Back then Vicenza was a relatively new option. There were many examples of great looking well worn FQHH jackets here, but the stiffness put me off a bit and as I wear it casually, I ordered Vicenza.
I have been...
Under my BR jacket I prefer Breton and Arran jumpers or plain crew neck wool jumpers in the cold season. In early spring and autumn, I wear cotton sweatshirts and hoodies.
You are right.
I think the power equilibrium between the company that borrows/copies/steals a design and the originator is important too. A smaller company might have to close down when an other company steals their ideas and floods the market with copies. For Levis, it was probably quite good...
Inspiring discussion. Was thinking about fakes, rip-offs, copies, re-productions, inspirations, homages…
Very often it is a is a fine line between the categories. In the end, the owner of the original design has to decide how he feels about an other company copying their work.
It reminds me of...
In lists like this, they usually show luxury goods and mix in some high-street products. The average reader wants the big label jacket but can’t afford it and then buys a “similar” one from Nudie h&m or AllSaints.
People who wear a Balmain leather jacket for 5k or the Gucci for 10k will...
Nice patina.
I have a very similar one in black. Maybe it’s the same model. The fur collar is still attached. Mine has warm padded lining and a detachable extra thick down liner. It’s a rather heavy jacket.
Interesting, your jacket looks quite beaten up on the outside and the lining looks...
Wore Doc’s exclusively in the 90’s. You are right, the quality today is abysmal. A few years ago, I bought a pair of Made in England Doc Martens, hoping to get something that would hold up a bit better. Usually they are quite expensive, but I got them in the sale. Still the quality is quite low...
On my new Bord Racer, I had the end of a thread hanging out. With a thick needle, usually used for bookbinding, I pulled it in, out and in again through the holes in the seam. Now I don’t even remember where it was.
Cheers!
@Edward
Yes, it is Vicenza leather.
@Rich22
Still need to take fit pics. Here is a bonus photo of the jacket together with my new scarf. Looking forward to colder weather...
Autumn is coming, looking forward to wearing my jacket.
Unfortunately Photobucket doesn't work anymore, therefore I am uploading the images again, using Imgur.
Just for general symmetry, the pocket is not visible. I can feel it, but that's not a problem. Having two internal pockets wouldn't make the jacket better in any way, it's just a small rather unimportant detail. Caring about things on this level shows me how happy I am with the jacket in...
They don’t offer a modern YKK two way zipper. This was a misunderstanding. Some time ago, they used a model produced by YKK, that is similar to the usual Talon. They still had a few left when I visited the Factory last year; Denny offered to use one for my jacket, but I preferred a Talon...
Last year around this time, I started planning a Board Racer jacket. Like me, you already got excellent advice from the senior members of this friendly board.
Here are a few more points:
I chose Italian HH and am happy with the weight, the texture and the way it drapes. It was hard to make...
When I visited the Aero factory, I had a chat with the man who cuts the leather and gives the projects to the machinists/artisans. He said that some of them prefer making a certain jacket type and take on projects accordingly.
The people at Aero want you to have the best jacket possible...
