Art Fawcett VS Hall of Fame

Earlier this year Art made a "Marathon" for me in lithgweight Granite and I find the color extremely versatile. It dresses up well enough to wear with a suit and top coat, goes nicely with a tweed sport coat and I can wear it with my FQHH Aero LHB without feeling like I'm trying to pull off and...

Filson tin cloth pants and bibs question

Whatever you do DO NOT wash any thing made of "tin cloth." Even the oil finish tin cloth will shrink if the oil finish is allowed to wear off or dry out. I'm talking serious shrinkage.

    Henry the Hatter

Bought my first real fedora at the store in Oak Park. A Borsalino "Como". Most recently I took a "beater" acquired from another FLer to the shop for a new band and a little TLC. "Joedehat" took care of me. Never had an issue with HtH and I hope they are around for another 100 years...

Filson tin cloth pants and bibs question

I've got a closet full of Filson - just love the stuff. Whoever said, if you don't need them you won't want them said it well. They are like iron and will wear your legs raw without a base layer. Also, keep in mind none of their gear breaths well so a wicking layer is need. I've had single...

U.S. members here who purchased directly from Aero Scotland...

UPS just delivered my LHB, which I had returned to have re-lined. Inspite of the box saying on all six sides "ITEM BEING RETURNED FOR REPAIRS - NO DUTY OWED", my custom form being clearly marked "Return Goods" and Aero's Packing Slip being marked "ITEM RETURNED FOR REPAIR - NO DUTY OWED" one of...

Do you hunt in your Barbour

I wore mine for 2-3 seasons but not any more. First of all, I work cover pretty quickly and generate A LOT of body heat. Unless it in the low 40's and damp I've found the Beaufort to be too much coat. It has absolutely ZERO breathability and traps perspiration (which gets' absorbed by the...

What's the Right Hat for fishing?

Find an old "beater" like this Marathon and make it yours. There is no "right" hat for fly fishing but you'll look like you a stooge with the wrong one (i.e. you'll look like you are trying too hard to look right).

Save money! Rewax your old Barbour jacket yourself!

I have gone through two Barbour coats and they all smell just as you describe. Probably this is due to the nature of the materials used, the wax and the human oder that is picked up after years of wear. As for re-waxing, get it done. What Barbour won't tell you is the coats will shrink (I...

    Two Aero questions

I just had the lining in my LHB replaced. Cost (excluding postage) was around $165 +/- $10. It didn't take long - probably 6-weeks there and back. BUT, I really wasn't happy with the job they did. The lining in the sleeves and at the back of the coat extended a couple of mm's below the...

    Custom Hide briefcases

Your CF is different than mine. My 1945 is lined with dark leather and mine, which is Whiskey color has started to darken and take on what might be refered to as a patina. BTW: I also have a Filson leather briefcase. It's bomb proof. I bought it used off of eBay and it might be broken in...

You make a very good point HepKitty. Think about it: between the Nazis and the Japanese over 10 MILLION innocent people were killed. There should be plenty of lessons from that number alone. By any chance did you see HBO's "The Pacific"? It brought a lot of light to the plight of US...

Feet Up! The Work Boot Thread

They are fine on dry surfaces and they wear like iron BUT, the slightest bit of snow and you have NO traction. Even in wet grass things can get tricky unless you are just walking in them. I looked into getting mine resoled - it's a pretty expensive change. My cobbler glued on a thin sole...
