I'm really tempted to buy the second one, but I don't want to unless I know it's good in the rain, and also that the seller is a reputable one.

I don't want to go crazy, so probably around £150.

Hi there, I'm looking for a "traditional" hat that might have been worn by gentleman back in the 40's/50's. Think detectives from old LA Noire type movies. I really like tall, straight sided crowns with a centre dent and a tight front pinch, but I don't want another Indiana Jones hat. I want...

    Akubra: Bogart v. Stylemaster

Not scared of it. I've bought two open crown hats, and I love them. I just felt like being a little bit lazy, plus I'm not sure if the shape of the crown would let me put the shape in it that I'm looking for.

    Akubra: Bogart v. Stylemaster

I decided to get the stylemaster in the end. I think it looks a bit more "traditional" than the bogart.

    Akubra: Bogart v. Stylemaster

I personally favour the centre crease.

    Akubra: Bogart v. Stylemaster

I live in the UK, so shipping + duty is going to be a problem for any US made hats.

    Akubra: Bogart v. Stylemaster

But if I can't afford both, which one should I go for?

    Akubra: Bogart v. Stylemaster

Yeah, I really want an old-fashioned wide-ribboned fedora, and I think that the Bogart is the closest I'll get to that.

    Akubra: Bogart v. Stylemaster

Unfortunately, that's not an option for me. I'm just wondering which would be considered more "traditional" in the sense of what looks more like what you might consider a standard fedora (if there is such a thing).

    Akubra: Bogart v. Stylemaster

Hi guys, I really want a kind of formal, traditional style fedora, and I'm thinking that either the Akubra Bogart or Stylemaster might do the trick. Thing is I'm just not too sure which to get. I like the Stylemaster because it has a tighter front pinch than the Bogart, but the Bogart has a...

How do folks react to your hat wearing?

Went out for a walk and had a child say "Alright Sherlock". I wanted to tell him that Sherlock Holmes wears a top hat, and I was wearing a fedora. Then I had another child shout "Are you an investigator?" That sort of thing is quite typical here in the UK. Apparently people here just don't...

Are you sure that would be better than a Stylemaster?

    Akubra Stylemaster thoughts and opinions

If I was looking for this kind of style, which hat would get me closer to it? I know the stylemaster doesn't have as fat a ribbon band, but I do quite like that kind of rounded look.

Out of interest, what hat does Humphrey Bogart wear in Cassablanca?

    Akubra Stylemaster thoughts and opinions

I'm not sure I really want an open crown hat though, because the only style I know how to do is a centre crease pinch front. What's wrong with having a hat with a bit of taper on it?

    Akubra Stylemaster thoughts and opinions

Yeah, but I like the traditional fedora look. You know the gentleman with a suit and his fedora, or a detective with a trench coat and a fedora, that kind of look. I thought the stylemaster had that nice sort of really smart, gentleman, suit wearing look to it.
