Thank you! Restoring of that MP is still in progress. For now I can tell that cleaning in the electrolysis did not go as expected, but nothing is lost. My friend will give me some tannate for preserving metal parts and then I'll get replicas of bakelite parts which literally fell apart.
I must look for some stiffener somewhere in the West then, I didn't find anything like that here in CZ. The flange or hat block still remains a problem.
Yup, that's it. I tried to stiff it with cornstarch yesterday and now there are stains from it. I will also need a block for reshaping a brim. I thing there is no makeshift replacement for it.
New finds: Stalag 318 Id tag, French identity card of participant of foreign Czechoslovak resistance and MP 40 SMG. Both medals were identified and both belonged to one soldier. The name is Ivan Andreevich Okunev from 331. Carpathian Guards Artillery Regiment
It was most probably made in Czechoslovakia although any markings was long ago wiped away, but when? 60's? I don't know, the owner is unfortunately no longer with us.
Neat! I so envy him :)
Not really, but following these instructions you can make your own. It took me ca. 30min. to make one. Try it, it's so easy! :)
