My guess is the hat could be as early as 50s, maybe even 40s. The liner reads "Ye Olde Hatters Established 1924 Hand Made Quality Felts" Located on Irving Park Road in Chicago. The sweatband has an embossed logo that reads "Moistrap Reg. U.S Pat. Off"
Anybody have an idea how to date this...
Thanks, Carter - yer a geen-yus!
Feltfan - I guess the brim width and the front dents make it seem like it's not a homburg. I like the lid, tho I think it'll take some getting used to - I'm a casual dresser.
I wasn’t looking for a homburg. I wanted a navy blue fedora. As you know, they are few and far between. They come along once in a (navy) blue moon. I lost out on a navy vintage Dobbs a few months ago which gave me a bad case of the blues.
Sorry.;)
Anyway – I ran across this lid a...
This lid is a beauty. Marked Three X Beaver. Never worn – still has tags. Silver belly with wind string. Brim is 2 5/8” and open crown is 5 ¼” . Liner and sweat are pristine. Felt is perfect. Minor soiling on the crown from storage – it will clean up perfectly. Tag reads 7 3/8 but at 22.5”...
A Rose By Any Other Name Would Smell As Sweet
This is becoming a rather interesting discussion, but I'm afraid I must attend to the following activities:
1. Xerox some copies of a magazine article (On a Canon printer)
2. Put a fresh Band-Aid on my cut. (Actually it's a Curad)
3...
Howdy fellers! I’m a-writin’ cuz I done picked up this here fancified Stetson fee-dora on one o’ them thar awkshun places on the internets a while back.
Now, here’s the thang – it looks like an Open Road, it feels like an Open Road, and it even smells like one – but it ain’t spelled out...
STEVENS OPEN ROAD OR STRAT CLONE - I THINK
Hello All!
Won this lid a few days back. It's a Stevens with a red lining. What do you think? Did I score?

You Have F.D.D. (Fedora Dysmorphic Disorder)
You look GREAT in that lid, man! T - shirt included. Own it! Wear it around the house. Venture out into the yard. Then around the neighborhood. Gradually you will become less self-conscious and come to realize that the Homburg is you...
Kurtz - do you not see how this statement might be offensive to the person who creased the hat? Now, I mean no offense to you, but please allow me to offer a kind suggestion: we would all be wise to measure our words.
Thanks for the input, guys...
The hat is relatively inexpensive and a lesser brand (Bond) with a low WPI. I think I will request a refund from the seller.
Hello All!
Just received a vintage Bond Panama fedora that I won on OFAS. Seller neglected to mention a slight split (quarter inch) in the edge of the brim in the back. :rage:
Anyone have any suggestions on how to do a temporary fix/patch job to prevent the split from getting bigger?
Burgess Meredith was in two other episodes I can think of. One was where he played the devil as a linotype operator for a small town newspaper. Whatever he typed in the machine as news... a plane crash, etc.... came true the next day.
The other episode was set in a future totalitarian...
Anybody interested in this nice vintage lid for summer? I just received it, but it's way, way too small for my big melon. It's marked 7 3-8 but it fits like a 7 1-4. The lid has a 22.5 circumference. Some minor issues:
1. Brim is a bit wavey - but it just needs is to be wetted down, blown...
I like to channel my inner Ed Norton.
That was a Honeymooners reference to all you youngsters out there. It was a fifties TV show with Jackie Gleason and Art Carney. Jackie Gleason was... oh, the hell with it...
